I just picked up my '04 1500 Z66 AVY and I'm loving it.

I've been checking out the forum for a few days trying to figure out how 20'' rims and a 2/3 drop would affect my tow rating. I haven't been able to come up with any good info on this.

Is there a rule of thumb, like for each inch lowered you loose so many pounds of towing capacity? I also suspect that a lower profile tire that would be required for a 20'' rim would have a lower max weight rating.

I got the AVY primarily as a daily driver and to tow my vette on an open trailer a few times a year. I figure the trailer and car with gear will come in about 6000#. The big rims and drop wasn't originally in my plans, but these trucks just look SO COOL that way :)

I appreciate any thoughts and insight you guys might offer.

The tires and wheels should be rated for the same loads as stock wheels and tires and then you should be OK...

as for lowering....too hard to say as the lowering kit may change the load carrying ability of AVY and may lower the amount for towing...check with lowering Manufacture

Probably upgrade the brakes, but if the tire size stays about the same, and you have trailer brakes, it should be ok. Some aftermarket wheels arnt nearly as good as stock wheels.
