Black Hills Air Sports is 50 miles NW of Rapid City. ?Before I call/email to get a group rate going, I'd like to see how many folks would be interested.

They offer two ways to fall from the sky:
-- Tandem (attached to instructor, jump at 10,000ft, free fall to 5,000ft, deploy canopy)
-- Static Line (jump at 5,000ft, canopy deployed by line attached to aircraft)

I've done two static line jumps and it's amazing. ?I've never experienced a free fall, but friends say it's amazing. ?It's also a little more expensive. :)

The ONLY reason you shouldn't be interested is the cost, but if I can get enough people on board that may come down a bit.

Please visit their site for more information. ?This will give you a good idea where the pricing starts. ?There are also weight limitations to consider.

Go check it out, and LET'S GO!!!

You are proposing jumping out of a perfectly functional airplane? ;D

I did the static jump here a few years ago. My wife bought the jump for my birthday. Not sure what she was thinking!!! Actually I had been wanting to do it for a long time. It is one hell of a rush........I now have two grandkids that I want to watch grow up so I am passing this time. It would be fun to go watch some of you jump for sure...

Folks, you're free to pursue this on your own but due to the risks inherently involved with jumping out of a perfectly operating aircraft the club cannot and will not support, sanction, or endorse this in anyway. Sorry - just WAY to much liability. Again, you are more than free to set this up on your own.

I had looked into jumping before I lost a few lbs (OK several) - I recall there is a weight limit for the person jumping.

I am not an expert, just recalling some old info

It would be fun to jump - maybe we could land in the back of an AV ;D

According to the site Fish linked to in his post -

there are weight limits listed.

220 lb. for a tandem jump and 215 lb. for static jump
(100kg and 98kg respectfully, for those of you that recognize the metric system of weights and measures)

The only sky diving I'll ever do is off the tailgate of my AV. :)

I've jumped off it a few times where the landings hurt a little. :(

Count me in for a static line. I have jumped static line over 200 times, thanks to Uncle Sam, without a scratch.

Somewhat off-topic but the funniest sky diving scene in a movie EVER is in the movie Fandango starring Kevin Costner and Judd Nelson. ?Well worth renting the movie just to see the 20 minutes of the jump scene.

Far out dude!

Fandango pictures and information about "The Groovers."

I loved all the parts involving that plane in that movie >:D
Exiting the highway on the offramp LMAO >:D >:D
How about the plan to tow the car with A TRAIN :2: :2:
I think I'll buy the dvd (y)

I did my first tandom jump from 13,500ft back in nov.2002, it was awsome, i'm ready to do it again, except i want to do AFF, i already trained for it, but was having cumunications problems due to the extreme cold -33 below zero at 13,500ft. What does accelerated free fall cost?

You will never regret getting into skydiving... I got half way to my A Grade licence and loved it. 18 jumps with my longest being a 20 second freefall. I can assure you there is very little on earth that can compare with the buzz it provides.

You got that right Skidd, my free fall was about 60 seconds, the the best 60 sec. buzz there is!! Tandom landings suck, come down too fast, legs get tangled. I want to do the solo.

Over here a solo freefall for a newbie was called an AFF course (Accelerated Free Fall). ?First jump is made from 10K with three instructors. ?One hanging on to your jump suit handles (thigh & torso) on each side of your body and the third flies 3 feet in front of you giving you signals as you carry out basic arieal manouvres. ?You pull your own ripcord at 3K and land yourself. ?Never done it but always wanted to... seems like the best way to get straight into the fun stuff... freefall!

The ones i went with use two for AFF, one on each side torso handles, if you wanted to have a video of yourself then there would be three, the cameraman in front of you until 5,000, then pull the cord, the cameraman waits until 2,000 ft to get on the ground first to tape your approach to the ground and landing. It was cool!

Don't we have a couple of HALO types employed by the federal government around here?

High Altitude Low Opening. It's a covert insertion technique.
