On the back bumper?!?!?

I couldn't believe my eyes today while helping unload groceries from the Avalanche after my wife returned from shopping. Sitting on the back bumper was a tiny Dremel bit. How did it get there you ask? I placed it there while I was tinkering around on a few mods... YESTERDAY!!! The tiny Dremel bit had stayed on the back bumper for 20+ miles down roads and hills of various condition, never dirt nor highway though, always something inbetween. My driveway even has a half-curb step up from the road which she obviously had to have crossed TWICE, yet still the Dremel bit remained.

That must be a fluke you say? Just wait, it gets better. On New Year's Eve I was out taking some pictures of my AV before running around and going party hopping that night. I wanted to get a shot of loading up the side storage bins with ice and beers. So how does this relate to the story you ask? Well I somehow left my $600 Digital Camera on my back bumper before we left!!! DUH!!!!! I never thought about it until the next day when I walked out in the driveway and was confused about the small metalic object sitting on my bumper. It was my camera. For a brief moment I thought "how the heck did that get out here this morning?" but then it dawned on me. I'd left it there from the night before and it spent 40+ miles on the back bumper all night long and never budged an inch! It was sphincter clenching moment, let me tell you.

So what did I learn from these nearly expensive mistakes? If you want some free schwag just follow TXAVy around quietly and try not to laugh at the dunce cap his wife makes him wear while driving now, and... The smoothest ride in the AV is OBVIOUSLY on the back bumper. You'd have to have $600+ dollars worth of proof to make me think otherwise.

TXAVy,

Same thing happend to me last summer. My daughter gave me her watch while I was washing the my AV (y) (y) on a Sunday afternoon. She did not want to wear it while she played and swam in the pool. I put the thing on the rear bumper and forgot all about it. I went to work for two days - thats 120 miles easy - 50% stop and go! At dinner on the Tuesday even my daughter asked for her watch. It then struck me. With a blank expression on my face, I take the keys and proceed to my AV. Half way down the deck stairs I stop in my tracks when I spot the watch on the bumper - right where I put it. After a bout 30 seconds on staring at the thing I go to the AV and pick up the watch (half way expecting the thing to be glued to the bumber) and smile :).

I later tell my wife and daughter and they DON'T believe me!!! Then my daughter remember wheres I put her watch and her eyes widen in amazement.

Yeah - the AV is smooth!!!

I've left my gas cap on the hinge of my Suburban several times. It always made it home. Awesome suspension on the rear of these vehciles!

That's Awesome and that ride goes all the way back to at least 1980. My dad has a 1/2ton 80 Chevy pickup and My wallet made the 13 Mile trip from home to work one morning on the bumper. ;D

Hey, it has been a while since my last post, but I coudn't resist tellig this story.

Depending on what kind of watch Theo left on the bumper, I may have the most "sphincter clenching" moment. I went out with a lady friend of mine a couple weeks ago and after I dropped her off, I opened up the tailgate to get something out the back.

When I got home, I nearly sh-- a ring around the moon. I drove home with my tailgate open... up her 30 to 45-degree driveway down the twisting roads to my home (driving as wild as I ususaly do, too fast around corners etc.). I checked to make sure everything was still there and they were. These items included:
- Halliburton Briefcase ($400)
- Dell Laptop with all of my clients and contact info on it ($3,000)
- (1) .45 and (1) 9mm handgun ($1,000? I forgot)
- Two yet-to-be-inststalled subwoofers ($550)
-- Look on my face when I saw the tailgate open (PRICELESS)

I don't credit this so much to GM's great suspention as I do ACT OF GOD!!!

My 02 Z71 rides incredibly smooth. Had my mother in my Av today for an extended drive from the airport. She had been very skeptical when I purchased my Av thinking it was too "bulky" and that it would have a crappy ride. Well she is now an Avalanche fan...even wanted me to give her the web address to check out everyones' Avs...compared to her '99 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer V8 she said my Av was far and away a better ride! No comparison. Plus she really has begun to love the looks of the truck!

Similar quality ride story--
My shop is a few miles from my home
for two days, I could not find my cordless phone at my shop---I had made 4 trips from work to home and back--- after spending about an hour looking for the cordless, I remembered, it had the>> find the lost phone feature, [derr] where you press the base and the cordless rings--
Well low and behold, there it was on my bumper
Nice ride, you betcha ;D

Well, one day we went up Georgia Pass (a level 3 out of 8 trail for difficulty off roading). It was extremely rocky and therefore bumpy. Since it was my birthday, there was a birthday cake in the bed, which as you know, it will get very messy if it touches anything. Well, when it came time to eat it, the smooth ride of the Av left the cake untouched and was perfectly ready to eat .

That sticky rubber mat goes a long way in keeping things inside the bed.

I've been wanting to find a way to tell this story and now you all have given me the oppurtunity.

Last Wednesday night I had to drive a customer to dinner. The customer was a Jaguar Principal engineer in the engine and powertrain department that was here from England to look at our processes (we make camcovers for them).
Anyway, the restaurant was about 30min. away. Here's the cool part, as we are cruisin' down the road he said that he was impressed with how "refined" the AV was!!! He said it only had a little noticable engine noise when pulling and was very impressed with how nice the ride was. Let's face it, we all get told how our trucks have a nice ride. When a Principal Engineer from Jaguar says it you can't help but smile from ear to ear.

I just think it's awesome that we have such a versatile truck. We can carry a load of lumber or whatever in the bed. We can pull a big boat or a camper, and when it comes time we can just chill and cruise in our fine luxurious riding Avalanche. :B:

To me the smoothest ride is in the drivers seat, that's were I like to be .
