I don't know if anyone has noticed but according to the GM literature the soft tonneau cover will no longer be an option on Avalanches. Those that do have the soft cover have a rare animal...

My spy, now GM deceased, told me the soft verison was the one that didn't leak in the begining. ?And that they tossed those crapy drip rail on the hard tops as a band aid instead of redrawing the dam-thing.

Go figure... :6:

Well, through rain and high pressure car washes I have yet to see any signs of water in the bed with the soft cover.
I went with it b/c it was easier to get on/off and storage, now it'll be collectors item?

I just bought a Z66 WBH today, and the Soft Cover is still an option on the 2003 WBH models. ?You get a $600 refund, too! ?When I got to the dealership, I saw the hard cover on there, and I was a happy man, because the brochure/cd says that WBH's will get the Softie as standard equip, and I wasn't having that!

Party on!
Speed.

You get $600 off with the soft cover option, then later on if you decide you want the hard cover because it looks better and it's safer and you can secure your cargo you will have to dish out over $1000.
It happened to me.

At the time this was posted the soft cover was deleted and WBH didn't exist. With the WBH option you can delete the hard cover for the soft and as noted save another $600 --> congrats on your Av! ;D

without body hardware...or no cladding...

hey GurnB

welcome to the club
You've found a great resource for a wealth of information.
The folks around here are pretty helpful...
and they'll even give you a straight answer once in a while. ;)

WBH - Without Body Hardware

FYI WBH is know as "in the buff" or "nekid" too. :D

Seems the 2004 still have the soft cover option.....from a thread in the future section

When you put the hard cover on were you able to lock the tailgate or did you have to change the tailgate handle to one w/ a lock?

I just picked up my AV last night and am having the hard cover put on.

BTW: Nice screen name! ;D

Doesn't your AV have a loccking handle on the tailgate, every AV I've seen has it, and I had to make no changes, yours should have the locking handle other wise it's by by hard cover they would be so easy to steal.

hm, maybe it does and I didn't notice. I'll have to double check. Something tells me I don't though.

Well just look at the handle where you open the tailgate, there should be a key hole there that use the same key as the AV. if not just let me know where you park your AV, I can use a spare set of hard covers and tail lights (with the tailgate open it takes 2 seconds to remove your tail lights). LOL

Just checked. I have the lock, so I have no worries, and you can't steel my covers (when I get them).

Main, that is so true now that I remember there is a thread on that.
