Friday night was the worst friggin night!!

We were drivin on the freeway with a pos dogde ram in front of us when it kicked up a rock. It was like slow motion. This small bolder hit the windsheld of my precious av. **ck !!!! One 2 inch crack to go please!!! I only hope that the insurance will pick up the tab.

In FL it is law that insurance has to fix with no deductible...hope this is the case for you in your state :cautious:

Yeah, what he said! Karma for ya.

Sorry to hear about that Joe. I believe the rule that Rich mentioned is also in effect here in Texas. At some of the local Car wash joints, the window reqpair companies have a representative that will fix it right there on the spot and charge it directly to your insurance company. I have been lucky so far with the AV, but my previous Tahoe took a beating! :C:

Good luck and let us know what you find out with your state laws.

I have had my Avalanche for only three weeks but I know it is only a matter of time before I get stone chipped. The Silverado I have now has been tagged twice. Most stone chips can be fixed. This usually prevents the chip turning into an awful crack and the repair,if done properly, is hardly noticeable in many instances. Why, with all the technology that is out there, the powers that be have not come up with some spaceage plastic windshield that would resist stone chips and the like? Is it possible or would the cost be prohibitive?

Same thing happend to us friday too, but its just about a centimeter wide chip. still is annyoing tho. gonna have to get it fixed somtime.

Happened to me this winter. I had less than 5K on the truck and the crack traveled across the entire windshield so I had to have it replaced. I have a $50 deductable, but the auto glass place gave me a $25 discount so it only cost me $25 and a day without my Av. I don't have any leaks or anything but when I washed the truck last I did notice that the molding strip is not tight to the windshield across the top. I should stop by a dealer and ask if this may be a problem or if it is normal.

Happened to me when I had my Tahoe. The insurance company sent a guy out that replaced the windshield right at my job. The only compliant I had was that I had to get a new inspection sticker and the dude totally wiped out the VIN number down where the dash meets the windshield. I had to point out everytime anyone needed to copy down the VIN, to look at the door panel.

Good luck, shouldn't be too big a deal to get this fixed. Damn Dodges, can't live with'em can't shoot them all :E:

Bought my wife a new Land Rover Discovery II, and the very first day the same thing happened to her.
AAA in Southern California paid for the repair.
I didn't even have to call them, just called Safelite Auto Glass and they do evertyhing... :)

Here in Michigan you pay you deductible unless it is by vandals. A new windshield cost me $257 so the insurance paid $7 I didn't bother but if I would have told them someone smashed it they would have paid the whole thing provided a police report was made. The slow motion thing sucks its coming and you can't do anything about it!! :8: :8: Matt

This story brings back bad memories. I am active duty military, and in 1999, received orders from FL to CA. The wife and I drove separate vehicles, and did not have any problems, until we hit about a 30 mile strip "under reconstruction" in CA. The road was open to one lane traffic with "loose gravel." During that few miles, I got two windshield dings, my wife got three.
We sucked it up and payed for fillers (which did not fix the cracks, but prevented further damage). Wish I would've known about the FL statute back then! Thanks for the info.
