Sony And Kicker Together!

That one kicker by itself will sound like the two Sony's put together. Trust me, I know this. I hsve two 10" kicker L7's with a Kicker amp. Possibly for sale.

do yourself a favor and get rid of those sonys. that one kicker would blow it away. and get a better amp. we install them and the rated wattage is nothing close to what they put out. you will need a lot more power to push the kickers. also i dont know if its your plan to have all of them running at the same time but i wouldnt.

How Much Would You Want For Them Whats The Specs ?

I say put your money where your mouth is when it comes to this topic's advice. I'd be willing to bet anyone here that with the amp he has, the pair of Sony's will be louder than that single Kicker! Why? The Sony's can generate more output with less input and the amp will be providing twice the output due to the lower impedence provided by the pair of Sony's as compared to the single Kicker. This is assuming that the Sony's are indeed 4ohms apiece wired parallel and that the Kicker is a single 4ohm coil sub. Keep in mind too that the Kicker has far less surface area than the pair of Sony subs, and will generate less excursion due to its design. Those Kickers need a lot of power to get them moving, and that's not something that I'd be too proud of as a speaker designer.

Most mainstream companies are concerned about getting subs to handle more power to be able to advertise higher power handling claims. Is this important to the end user? Not at all. I have a bunch of steel rods in my garage and an iron table on my back porch that will handle god-only-knows how many thousands of watts, but they certainly don't sound good doing it.

Is the Kicker sub a good woofer? Yeah, it isn't bad at all. Will it be louder than the pair of Sony's? Not as long as one of them isn't blown. ;)

omg you are so off!

ok one, the sony CANT RUN AT 2 OHMS!!! it will be done for within the hour.

and two, no way in hell could a pair of sonys EVER put out as much as a L5 or L7 with compairable power put to them. sonys are entry level speakers, not anything ment to blow your eardrums.

not to sound like a jerk, im just saying, i deal with both exact subs every day and i am in no way impressed with the sony subs or amps.

My thoughts exactly arrivalanche. I've heard sonys and they can not I repeat can not compare to the kickers. No way.

Looks like we've got a bet here! ;D

I still think the Sony's would win, here's why:

Twice the surface area.
Higher output with less power
Less peaky power/spl curve
Better ouput in the box they are in currently compared to the L7
Far less power hungry

The L7's are absolutely notorious for doing NOTHING until you throw 600-800 watts at them at least. The Sony's would have dismantled themselves by that time. Yeah, the L7 would win if it was in a huge vented box designed for SPL, but in that tiny sealed enclosure, I think the Sony's will easily out perform the single Kicker.

LOL! You've got a damned good memory Gray.........I can't even start to remember what you do from that thread.

ok what makes you a audiophile??? I really doubt that you professionally install car audio, because if you did you would know that what you are feeding these people is a load. Surface area..... who cares?!? The difference between the two is SOOO minimal that you would never even know. On the power handeling side ill have to give it to you, the kickers are power hungery subs. But on the other hand, does that make a Jensen woofer better because it doesnt take anything short of deck power to run them? Im sorry but im really getting worked up listening to some know it all throwing around big words and crap you probably read in some car audio mag and applying it to sonys because they are the only brand you can afford. I do this stuff every day and we all laugh at your reply to this forum at my shop. So like you said before.... "put your money where your mouth is!" Show me your MECP certificate or something to prove that you should even be giving any advice to anyone on here. Everything you said is bad advice. You told the guy to run his 2 4 ohm subs parallel at the amp..... thats 2 ohms man! And then bridge is... thats one ohm.. Sorry but your belovid sony amp will never handle 1 or 2 ohms. OK sorry, 2 ohms for maybe ummmmm 5 mins!

DS,

Who cares what can run what ect. The point we are trying to make is performance and quality. Sonys cannot compare. I've had the Sony's(same ones in the picture) and now have the L7's. I also have the Kicker amp running the subs. If I was concerned about powering these, then I guess I should've went with Sony door speakers instead of my Diamond Audios. SQ and longevity. That's what I'm talking about. Also, one Kicker 8" will be compatable to the 2 Sony's. Been there, done that. LOL. Everyone has there own opinion and personal taste. Sorry to everyone that has read this thread trying to get info and only read bickering. LOL

seriously im not knocking what you have, im debating what DS is saying. his advice is off and as a professional i cant sit here and read advice that is wrong. stick with what you like and be happy, i just dont want you blowing up what you do have because DS says he is right. ;D
