Sound cutting out, Should I bypass or replace?

Hey everyone, I'm helping a friend out with an aftermarket radio install. 2003 Avalache with bose. The radio will play for a bit then no sound, no music no beeps, chimes anything. Seems to work when you first turn it on after sitting for a minute. It's almost like the amp is overheating. Oh and I'm getting a buzzing sound out of what looks like a mic in the headliner above drivers seat.

I've read a lot about others having amp issues . But before I try to bypass it, is there anyway to test for sure it's the amp.

The thing over the driver's seat is not a mic it is a temp sensor and is connected to the heat/air system. The noise is due to a small fan that can get worn and may need replacing.
Also welcome to the website!

Ha that's funny about the temp fan. Typical rookie move, lol.

I found wiring diagrams for the speakers out is it as simple as cut and splice or would I be better off pulling an amp out of the junkyard.

The issue with using the Bose stock amp is that you will lose some volume gain if you change out the speakers to since it is made to work off 2ohm speakers. Also I was informed by a member that there is already a bypass plug located behind the the climate control. For the issues with the chime and alerts I think you will need to purchase a PacAudio harness.
I haven't had a chance to check for the bypass harness but what worked for me was to turn off the loudness feature on the new head unit. This got rid of that popping sound and clipping from the Bose Amp.

Thanks for the tip, I read about that also but on a Camaro forum so I skimmed it. I need to go find it again I guess. You mentioned turning down the loudness. I could try that but the factory radio did the same thing, would that matter, regardless worth a try.

I can't remember if the factory radio has a loudness setting but if it was clipping and sound cutting off on the factory head unit and on the new I would suspect the Bose Amp is giving out. Hopefully you will have this bypass connection so you don't have to rewire everything.

Ok so I found the bypass, mine was right behind ac unit. But it sounded like crap. Can I assume that's because of the speakers being 2ohm?

Also I had the radio playing while I was pulling trim and stuff. It played great no issues I turned off, loud and anything else that might pull more power. Well then I started the truck and as soon as I did the sound started cutting out and then went away. I would love to say that when I shut the truck off sound came back but it did not. I think it may have been a coincidence and the amp is overheating. Any thoughts?

Ok so new info :) Radio plays great no issues until I start the vehicle then it cuts out. I sat there for a good 2 or 3 songs and it sounded great. Started it up and it started cutting our then went completely out.

What y'all make of that?

Supposedly when you use connect to the bypass harness it going to bypass the amp. Did you leave the other connection unplugged or did you plug it into the area where the bypass connection was? (Not sure if it makes a difference) If you have a spare speaker from another car try connecting that to one of the trucks speakers and see if it cuts out. If not then you know the stock speakers are going out.

I actually undid the bypass and went back with the amp. I'm starting to think there is a deeper electrical issue. I'm going to buy some door speakers that aren't 2ohm and see how it sounds with the bypass.
