Spark plug gap

I have a 2004 chevy avalanche. The old cheap plugs were gapped at 0.060. However i upgraded the plugs with a much better plug. I heard leave them at factory settings at 0.040. What should I do since I don't have an owners manual.

The gap is dependent on the plug type. Platinum or Irridium
