Spark plugs

Hello I need to the site I have a 04 Chevy avalanche and I'm also having issues with getting the old wires of the old spark plugs and has no aluminum around the wires and they are hard to pull out or like damaged away pulling them out so I can change out my plugs?

my suggestion is rip/cut whatever youhave to do to get old wires off.

Buy new wires and use dielectric grease inside boots before sticking on plugs.

They are not that expensive even aftermarket thicker ones.

Keep any you can get off and not damage as they can come in handy the next time you try to remove plug wires

Replace the old wires.

I would imagine they are original and at close to 20 years old, they are long past overdue.

I usually try to replace spark plugs and wires around 100K miles or so.

I prefer to stick with OEM wires and spark plugs over aftermarket, but I'm sure there are plenty of good ones out there.

On really stuck old wires that I do not intend to keep, I just grab a pair of channel lock pliers and go after it.

Just try to not smash the heat shields on the plug boots or snap the spark plug in half.

Grab hold of the wire itself and tug away.

And when you reinstall, slather that dielectric grease into the plug boots for good measure.

And, of course, that right rear one is going to be a booger, regardless.

Best of luck with your repair.

Cherry one for your suggestions, I will let you know of the outcome when it's all done..

I found out this weekend that sometimes what brand and PN etc spakplug you use really matter.

Daughter in-law has been having problems with her 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the Dodge 5.7L hemi engine.
has 2 plugs per cylinder so shopping around can save you money.

But anyways about 6-7 months ago she bought some plugs and had someone change them out. Well during process she lost some of the 16 plugs the engine needs so went all around town to find some replacements.

Friend installed plugs and all was well until a couple thousand miles and myabe 7-8 weeks later.

The engine would randomly DIE While driving or idling or whatever whenever - no rhyme or reason. and it kept getting worse.
Codes were strange like power supplied to TCM and ECM while going over 20MPH (they have a code for this but when on interstate whenit would die she learned to just put in N and cycle key off and back to start engine and off she could go.

Stumped me as for sure woud flip a code.
So we kept an eye on it and I would check codes daily and I started to get all sorts of crazy ones.

SO off to Mr Google and find some Jeep Forums - and I found it -

Must use Mopar Correct COPPER Electrode Spark plugs or else the theory is the coil magnetic field collapses early or late and sends spike back to computer ground and there ECM shuts off killing engine to protect itself. This is a 8 year long thread over 60 pages but thank god for forums and to those who add info and solutions.

We took out a mix of copper and platinum.

This is only year for hemi issue as chargers have it too - Folling year wiring harness was changed....

But IMO use stock plugs or those recommended from owners who have put some miles on the plugs
