Split Mid Gate.

If anyone bids on that thing please post here so that we don't get members jacking up the price on each other. I think it would benefit us all if ANYONE got ahold of it and disassembled it with lots of pics.

Perhaps worth talking to Chief to see if we can do it as a club research project if no one individually is willing to go buy it.

Actually... I just happened to think. How much you wanna bet that the person selling that midgate is a SnugTop owner? Take out the midgate and you have an instant "Split Midgate" as you don't actually need the water tight seal between the cab and bed.

Would need to find a new place to stow the rear window though and the crossbar might be tricky to take out or put back in. Hmmm...

Great idea. I'm willing to do the research, since I have plenty of time. Chief? Anybody?

Well, if you did have a SnugTop, and took out the midgate for that reason, why not also take out the window and crossbar?

Personally, I would think that if you were going to put on a SnugTop, and permanently remove the midgate, you would be better off getting a Suburban. I wound think that the advantage of an Av/SnugTop over the Suburban is that the back half is sealed from the passenger compartment, thereby allowing carrying dirty/dusty/smelly cargo without affecting the cab.

If we're speculating, I'm gonna guess that it came out of a customized truck with a killer sound system, one where they replaced the midgate with a custom non-opening amp/subwoofer mounting panel.

I would be willing to put in $25 for Prince_FuFu's project (y). I wouldn't expect anything in return except detailed instructions and pics of the "Modified Midgate".

Duh! It's Monday right? I don't know why I didn't make that connection. :p

I have a plastics biz , that specializes in vacuum forming, I am willing to make tools etc , we need other disciplines to unite to make this happen, I think it would be relatively easy, but I am the eternal optimist!!

I?m having a hard of enough time trying to keep my AV sealed up from water leaks.
:D: :D: :D:

The last thing I would want is more places for a water leak.

I'd be willing to contribute 25 bucks to see if the midgate can be sucessfully split. The other day I was driving with the rear seats down because the dogs were in the back. I forgot to put the seats back up and had to drive someone to lunch so I put the larger side up and was thinking how cool it would be to be able to ope the smaller side and have access to the bed.

The $100 midgate on EBay has already sold. Let's keep our eyes open for another deal like that. If we do find one (and we get enough $ for the experiment), I'll proceed with the Mod experiment. I'm actually looking forward to it.

I'm new to posting, but have been reading and studying all the various threads here for some time, especially this one. To me, the split midgate is the most important mod I desire.

I first thought a pass-through would be easier, but now I think a full split would be best.

A friend suggested removing the midgate altogether and using it to pattern a new split midgate fashioned out of wood or some other material. Has anyone thought of this, or even better, tried it? I thought, maybe 3 layers of plywood with the middle layer being the same shape as the midgate and the layers on either side contoured to match the indentations of the midgate. Might be a fairly easy way to gain the functionality of a split midgate without sacrificing one?

Maybe someone out there will start manufacturing split midgates and we can all rush to his doorstep!

that was my fisrt question to the dealer before leasing my 07
i want a 60/40 split to match the seats so i can carry skis beside the two munchkins in back

I am new and I'm in. This MOD would make my AVY exactly what I need in a Vehicle.... (y)
