Has anyone had any problems with their steering wheel squeaking while turning??? ??? Mine started this about a month ago and wondering if there is anything I can do to get this thing fixed :8: I've also noticed lately that when my AV shifts in town and the tunes are off I can hear a thunking in the driveline through the first couple of gears. :7: Anyone ever have this weird thunk and what's the remedy???

Thanks

Okay, first, on the steering. Yes, I've noticed a weird sound sometimes, but it's not a squeak. What it sounds like is rubber rubbing on plastic, right inside the steering column shroud somewhere. Daily driving it's not there, just when I'm manuevering at low speed and turning the wheel from lock to lock and back and forth when parking. Ours is just something rubbing I think.

And the thunk. This could be one of a few things I think, and we do have a clunk here or there every so often. There's the usual posi-traction (limited slip) clunk when slowing and then getting back on it. And sometimes, but rarely, I've also noticed a thunk of some sorts sometimes, sounding like a hard shift in the transmission, usually at the same slow and go times. Your's could be anyone of a few, but this is just an idea.

Neither of these problems is even remotely noticable on our Av though, it's just that I'm a problem finder and am looking for odd things all the time.

There are two annoyances I'd like to get rid of though! An annoying squeak underneath the driver's seat over bumps or other movement, and a rattle above the back window that's been there from day one, caused by a looseness somewhere around one of the latches and the trim panel over them.

Other than that, it's terrific! Good luck with the squeak and thunk (there's nothing I hate more than weird noises in a new car!).

My 1998 Suburban developed a steering squeek at about 20,000 miles. Drove me nuts.

I finally took it to my local Chevy garage (Town & Country Chevrolet in Milwaukie, Oregon). The service manager took one look at it and grinned. He went into the shop and returned a moment later with a can of silicone spray. Then, he got under the dash and sprayed where the steering column goes through the grommet in the firewall.

He said. "That should fix it, thanks for buying from us." And he gave me the spray can with orders to spray the junction again if it ever squeeked again. It never did.

The message, of course, is sometimes problems are simple and they call for simple fixes.

I would suggest you check the firewall/steering column grommet and spray with something appropriate. Might just solve the problem.

Had the same problem at about 8000 miles.

I learned a long time ago the a can of silicone spray can fix just about any little squeak. I always keep two in my tool box.

Works better than WD40.

Yup...I had the steering squeak/rubbing/grinding sound. My dealer did find that it was where the shaft passes through the firewall. They lubed it and it stopped...for awhile. It is sort of back now...just not as noticeable.
