GMT900 Upgrade
Wish I would have seen this before I did my brakes. So I'm starting to gather parts for this up grade for the next brake fest.

I would like every one who has upgraded to Stainless Steel Brake Lines give your .2.
What I want is Quality; and Perfect Fitment; Stock Height AVY.
Would you buy the same lines again?
I have seen some reference to MUD is he a vendor and still around.
It will be about 230k on the Avy so it will past time to replace the lines and I know what
Stainless Steel Brake Lines will give me so your .2 if you have installed, and thanks from all of us looking at this up grade.

I went with a Russell 5 piece set for a silverado on mine. Bolted right up with no problems. These are Stainless braided covered in rubber tubing with their name on it. Don't waste your time on "Speed bleeders" though I stripped out a caliper with one of them.

I got the same ones as ohiobellboy and replaced all pads and rotors with the slotted and drilled and so far (200 miles) I'm impressed with the stopping power. No fade or pulse feeling!
Yes I would purchase them again and the instructions and fit were dead on!

Thanks Ohilbellboy and Big L this is what I?m looking for and others will appreciate tried and true feed back.

I got the 5 piece set from Mud a few years ago. I have no idea if he is still around. I don't think that he is a site approved vendor any more, you will have to communicate to him through PM's. As far as the performance goes, there is a very noticeable difference in the pedal feel. I certainly don't have to put as much pressure on the pedal for emergency stops as I did before. Highly recommended!

Went with the Russell kit as well, everything fit with the exception on the front brake line brackets, ended up reusing the stock brackets after cutting the old stock rubber cables.

I was doing the Raybestos upgrade and after removing the stock front right cable ended up stripping the flare threads on the hard line (10yrs of corrosion).  I found the my stock hardlines were rusted in a few places, under radiator, left rear wheel and right front wheel, so I had to replace my stock lines with ss hard lines. It was a pain but now brakes work better then when I drove the truck off the lot new.

As for the bleeders, for the 2500 all 4 corners are 10 x 1.5 mm (also used the russell). Since I replaced the calipers and hard lines, I needed to bleed the system anyway.  Used the Mityvac hand bleeder with stock bleeders, then added the speed bleeders and bleed by the pedal. After installing the speed bleeders the pedal really firmed up. Makes replacing the brake fluid a breeze with one man.

My 2 cents!

Cheers!

its sooo easy for u US guys/gals to get parts.. us northerners have a tough time and when we do find dealers we pay a premium for the parts.
having said that, ive wanted SS lines for some time now.
i have tried and tried to get a hold Mud. he does not answer PM's or emails. i think he is inactive on the forum now and prob changed emails.
i think ill try to find a dealer here for the russell's 5 pc set. anyone have a part number to fit 04 z71 stock height?

thnx

This is great the help and give back on the site, the pics are great.
Is there any others that want to review their set up other than Russell and please part numbers.
I'm not sure about speed bleeders, can some one explain. I have a 3 Gal. Vacuum pump I use what would be the advantage of the speed bleeders.
OK how do you search a member I've tried Mud on search and I get mud thrown at me.

Here is a link to Mudd's profile. You can try PMing him, or emailing him from there. According to his profile, he was last active in Nov of last year so maybe you can get hold of him.

There's a check valve in the bleeder itself that is supposed to allow one person to bleed the brakes. If you have a 3gal vac pump, don't spend the $20 on the bleeders, you have a one man set up as it is.

I know it's a dumb question, but how would you bleed the brakes "normally"?  I always thought you just disconnected the brake lines near the calipers and put them into a tub, then slowly pressed the brake pedal until fluid started coming out, then reconnect and move to the next one.

Troublemaker,
You have the concept but you need to keep any air from getting in the system. Removing the line from the container could allow air back in the system.
Start with a container with some brake fluid in it, say about 2 ins. deep.
Install a hose that tightly fits over the bleeder valve put the other end in the container with the brake fluid and that end must stay submersed in the brake fluid. Crack the bleeder valve now you can pump your brake pedal. With the line still submersed and full of brake fluid tighten the bleeder valve.
With ABS never let your Master Cylinder go dry.
Start with the passenger rear to driver rear, passenger front, driver front, have a cold one.

thnx for the Russell part number
i finally received the kit today.

i recall having an issue with my right rear bleeder the last time i changed the fluid.
does Russell make the speed bleeder for the rears of the 04? what part number? same number front and rear?
im thinking its best to have them if something goes wrong and i need to retap.

also does anyone know the thread size on the rears?

thnx

Looks down a few post for the pix. It shows the speed bleeders with the part number on the package. I didn't like them as I stripped out a caliper with them.

thnx i did see the bleeders next to the brake lines.
dont know if they are for the front, rear or both.

i also would like to know what the thread is just in case i need to retap if something goes wrong

thnx

i sent multiple emails and pm's to Mud over several months last year and have yet to get a response from him. Facebook might be a good alternative for those interested in getting a hold of him.
i gave up on him and got the russell kit which is going in this weekend hopefully. prob cheaper for me with the russell kit anyways since im in Canada and would have to pay for shipping. took me a few days to track a dealer here and another 4 days to recieve but no shipping costs.paid $170 cdn for those who want to know. the last time i heard Muds kits were a little more

will this fit a 2500
I'm not sure of the brake setup on a 2500 as I don't own one, yet anyway. I'm starting a helluva collection though.

You may want to email Russell and ask them. IIRC, this is the part number for a Silvy that I used.

FYI, I was told by Russell if you have air in the system to bleed with the stock bleeders first then add the bleeders after.

I found this out after I bleed the brakes with the speed bleeders in, I just rebleed the system 2 years later and what a difference in braking?

I also have bleeders on my bike, now I understand why the mechanic didnt like speed bleeders, he said he could never get the pedal firm.

Cheers!
