Since my Valentine 1 seems to be incompatible with the OnStar on my Avalanche (sets off laser warning), anyone have any comments re: the Stealth 430 Radar Detector/Jammer? Here is link.

Thanks.

My Valentine V1 works with my AVY and I have onstar? what problems?

Also Jamming RADAR is against Federal law as dictated by the FCC.......

I had one of these from Rocky Mountain Radar. It seemed to never really work. I read an article once from someone that said it really didn't do anything at all. It had a very simple radar detector in it. I wouldn't waste my money. Its probably a passive system so it is legal but they don't work as well. If your the only person on the road and its instant on radar your BUSTED. I still have mine but it never gets used.

I had done a bunch of research on this topic when I was looking for one for my vette. I decided it was better to keep the vette on the track and do legal speed limits ;) on the road than to purchase one of them.

If it is laser or a photo system you can get a special license plate cover that blocks that but looks clear like the one Willie world sells.

They seem to work but I don?t have a front plate so not going to work for me.

Most of the information I've ever read on the radar jammers say that they are next to useless and don't work at all... I'd do some research before you spend the $$$.

I had a problem with the laser going off on my V1 as well. It was on one of the circuit boards. They replaced it and all is well. If it's the older style, I'd lean more towards that than anything wrong with your AV.

This problem happened in one vehicle and not another and neither was really different as far as options were concerned.

I'd call V1 and see what they suggest. Numbers on the bottom of your detector. :)

As far as the jammer goes most radar units have a sensor that alerts the operator if a jamming device is being used. It is illegal to use a radar-jamming device as ygmn.

LrNerd most instant on radar unit are not used. Mostly the unit is controlled by the operator and turned on depending on the target vehicle.

I can also tell you it is really easy to tell who is using a radar detector because the front end of the car dips or speed decreases as soon as the radar is activated.

My advice would be to save you money and drive smart!!!

The liscense plate can still be read in the negative of the photograph so you can still get a ticket with the covers.

Jamming radar is illegal by FCC regulations but jamming laser is not illegal because it is controlled by the FDA. I have the http://www.escortradar.com/srx.htm and can tell you that the laser jammer does work. I bought mine off of ebay and paid substantially less then the $1500 retail price.

i think Joe is right. sometimes a little slower is better. i don't normally speed thanks to a couple tickets from previous Suzuki GSX-R 750 and TL-1000R ownership. i have gotten along okay since i slowed down. i know the caravan down to the STI i speed up a little though. those AV's were rolling! ;)

The only "true jammers" are very sophisticated, multi piece units that cannot legally be sold in the us and must be pieced together from different sources. Our cost on the whole package (laser array emitter, can;t remember the wattage and regular x k and ka front and rear emitters, as well as the central cpu) is in the neighborhood of $3500. This unit is amazing and will actually jam laser down to about 400 feet and can send out a strong enough signal to either give a disired speed reading, give no reading at all, or even cause the gun to lock up (never had verification on that last part--none of the few customers we have done these for ever wanted to try that feature!!). It has been a couple of years since we have done one of these, but I can tell you that the inexpensive units cannot possibly jam squat--they simply don't have the required sending units or the output power required to do so.
