Does anyone care to share if they have lived in their AVY? If so how did it go & do you have any tips you can or want to share?

Like Homeless orCAMPING?

There are many old threads about camping and the AV tent life on this site. Most have positive comments and photos.
Never read about homeless members on this site. Not sure if those people would have time and ability to post on this site or others....
I hope you are not joining the group of homeless people in this nation!

Thanks for your concern I may have to for a little while. I was looking for tips on what & what not to do. I will check out the camping threads and seek out some pointers. Thanks again...

If you can set up a tarp above your Avy and camp area. Try to stay dry

Select one of the windows to open, then duct tape a window screen over the outside.
Keeps the bugs out and don't sleep with the windows closed tight. Too much condensation.
Don't sleep with the engine running ever!

Camp next to a fishing spot.
Arm yourself with Bearspray at least.

Get yourself a good porta-potty.

Good Luck

Great tips thanks, hopefully I fixed the leaks in the cargo area.

Oh well, I did that already multiple times. What happened was, after hurricane Ike blasted me directly (I live 15 miles from the TX coast), my house was boarded up and I could not open a window or door (except one). Electricity was out for 17 days and the heat was 90-100 degrees and the humidity was 80-90%. There was no way to sleep in that house. I could barely breath in it, it was just stifling. So during the night I cranked up my truck and slept with the engine running and A/C on. I was kind of in survival mode. Other than burning a ton of gas no harm was done. Of course you are right, try to avoid doing what I did.

Interesting topic for me especially. I recently had a small fire In my home which I put out And Want to get the garden hose to water down ceiling tiles as they were still Smoldering and police and fire would not allow me back in and told me I would be arrested and charged with a felony if I didn't leave my own property. Anyway, they never went in to put out the smolding ceiling tiles made of cellulose and They reignited After about an hour, they allowed it to burn And It went up through the wall and eventually was put out. Everybody that saw said there was no structural damage But they had it demolished the same day while I was at the hospital. I lost hundreds of thousands of dollars In extremely rare antiques that I have collected Since I was a kid and have been passed down generations. None of which were destroyed from fire They were destroyed from the Escalator operator who made sure they ran over and over and over and smashed and smashed into smitherines And now I need to obtain a lawyer and Sue the s*** out of them. Anyway, I have no family or friends Or at least real friends. So I am now living out of my Avalanche. I am an outdoors person and very knowledgeable about how to stay warm And it's a good thing because it's been around six degrees above 0 the last few days.
One of the main things I would tell anybody which I found out is always put heat setting on resurreciate of course
But you need to make sure When you turn the engine off that it is on resurculate And not on fresh air intake unless you want to flush out cabin air. if you shut the engine off while It is set on vent Or fresh air setting whatever you choose to call it. The Fresh air vent will stay open allowing cold air to pour Into the cabin. And you will freeze your feet off even with the best socks and blankets wrapped around your legs. I also used a down comforter under the hood covering the entire engine compartment including battery. I have been doing this for many days even drove With it like this and there were no Issues. I do recommend Putting something To prop up the comforter a little bit around the alternator as I have the heavy Duty alternator larger larger version. I think it's 130 amp VS the stock 105 app. But you do want to make sure Your alternator can get fresh air and any shroud Or cover or blanket if you wish, Whatever you use to keep engine Compartment Warm does not block the alternator from accessing fresh air to allow for cooling. Because they do get very hot Especially if you're using cabin lights and radio Phone charger whatever. I also insulated the roof by stuffing in insulation where the moon roof using The quarter inch Styrofoam.
And sliding those in as well, which made a big Difference. I also used various blankets and what not and stuff them above the doors and drape them down to floor and tape plastic whatever to keep cold air out as much as possible. One more thing I will be doing That I was taught From another member here who has photos how to take the brass ring off of the screw, In the seat adjustment mechanism which will allow the driver's seat to recline back much further. If anybody else has any suggestions, please send them my way or post. any new Things i discovered I will also post.

Thanks

Thanks for sharing your story motormouth. What a tragedy and I'm sorry for what has transpired with you and your home. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Your fortitude to continue pressing on is extremely admirable.
