I posted in another thread regarding a steering noise. The noise and harmonic vibration was intermittant and usually occurred while backing and cutting the wheel. Took it in to the Caddy dealer (closest to my work, they were happy to work on the EXT's poor cousin!). I was able to duplicate the noise with the service manager in the truck. Anyway, bottom line is that they are going to replace the steering box. They don't know why it's making the noise, assured me it was safe to drive and they are waiting on the part coming in from Lansing, MI! I'll keep ya posted.

FYI, the new steering box arrived today (overnight!) and was installed today. So far, so good. The service at Ocean Cadillac (Miami Beach) was outstanding. I beleive I'll use them for all of the warranty work.

Great, just watch out, they may paint the cladding >:D

I imagine you would get better service. I would think when someone shells out the money for a Cadillac, they expect good service. ;D

Do the Caddy dealers groan a little, mention that there is a chev dealer down the road or otherwise try to get out of doing the warranty work? Do you also have a Cad or have been a customer of that dealer? I have noticed differences in treatment just by going to a chevy dealer that didn't sell the rig.

Actually, this one didn't. I had expected that, but they seem eager to do the work. We all know that the service departments are what really make the bucks for the dealership, so that's probably why. I usually hate going to the dealer, but I was impressed with their attitude. This was Ocean Cadillac in Miami Beach for those of you in the area....

My 2003 Av is making a light noise when turning.  I took it to the dealership, they said the noise is coming from the steering box and suggested replacement.  Quote was $1,300 plus labor.  Out of warrantee at 49,000 miles.

They did say it was not a safety issue.  I've decided to live with the noise for now, but have noticed several sources for OEM Av steering boxes on the internet via mail order.

Anyone have any suggestions on getting the cost down (other than doing it myself)?
