Steering Wheel Loose As A Goose??

Hello again,

This is #2 posting by me today, but I am trying everything to get rid of these noises.

Everytime I turn the steering wheel with my palm in tight corners such as turning at a stop sign, I get a Cracking noise in the steering column and it feels as if the steering wheel jumps.

I suggested to my dealer it was a bearing or the steering column neck, they checked it, so they say, and came up with nothing. If I put my one hand at 12:00 on the wheel and push back and forth, I can duplicate the noise and feeling, but the dealer says its normal and its a truck and it will make noise.

Anybody have any suggestions?

I don't think so! The steering on the Av is as solid and smooth as that on any car that I've ever driven!

I'd certainly get a second opinion on the noise, and if there really is play in the wheel, I think you've got a problem - probably not too serious a problem, but one that should be fixed - not glossed over by the dealer.

You are probably not doing this, but just to cover the bases: you aren't driving in 4WD mode, are you? This can cause the steering to feel very funny, especially on pavement.

If the answer is no to the above to posts, then don't take that "It's supposed to be that way" garbage from the dealer...go to another bow-tie dealer for a solution...

My steering is as smooth as a stick of butter.....that doesn't sound right..

you may be a candidate for the free alignment for the Avs. i think there was an alignment issue and all Avs are eligable for the first i believe 11,000 miles...

you may want to check it out!

;D
