News just said Tybee Island had a record surge of 12.5 ft, that can't be good.
 
Yeah they did have a huge surge. BUT there's video from the island showing the hotel and very little damage there. A lot of the main road on Tybee looked fine from the video. Haven't seen any video of the road through the marsh to get there yet though. Hopefully cleanup will go quickly and by Thursday they'll be almost back to normal.
 
The problem I have is, I was planning to start driving tomorrow, I need to take at least 2 days to drive down there. I did read that the damage along the main drag was a lot of smaller debris, but the island is still cut off from the mainland, the bridges are still closed until they are inspected.

Has anyone heard from Hugz? How did he fair?
 
Not sure about my other NC folks but we are fine in Wake Forest.  Lot of water & wind but we fortunately didn't even lose power.
 
We are fine here as we are farther west.
Lots of wind and rain few tree limbs down in back yard but overall ok.
James parts of 95 are shutdown in nc and sc. maybe open in the coming days.

But as hard as I hare to say I wouldn't chance the trip since it takes so long for you to travel.
Would hate to have you part way and we find out there is issues with the hotel or I80 to get to the island.

 
 
The latest news I've seen says that the barrier islands have less damage than the mainland.

Anyways I already took the vacation time and it's going to be nice weather this whole week. So I'll just wait till Tuesday to see if they open up the bridges and if the hotel is still in one piece

Wendy, my wife, asked why you didn't cancel the GTG. I understand why.

It's like canceling the Superbowl, I have Friday off and am sorely tempted to crash the party. Not likely but I wish everyone a great time, the storm could have been worse. Celebrate that it wasn't.

It would also be stupid, I'm going to retire Jan. 1 and Tybee Island will still be there  :cool:

Take lots of photos so I can view them from my recliner  :wave:
 
Heard from the group director. He said power is back on at the hotel.
He is going there tomorrow and he will email me what he thinks on the status of the hotel.
Another group that was slated for the weekend has already backed out but they needed the beaches to be in pristine condition

But STI 2026 has been officially canceled.
Hotel will not be opening until Monday.
Just got off the phone with the group director.
All rooms will be canceled and refunds made where needed.

Short term. I will have something at the house if there's interest.
Long term STI maybe moving to the spring. Going to work out the logistics with the hotel next week

Too bad....  spring sounds good.  Will have to miss whatever happens at the house as we'll be heading to FL for our cruise.

I was bummed when I got your text, but also glad at the same time that I wasn't already half way down there. Look forward to seeing when it will be rescheduled.

Sorry your party got 'caned but I'll be retired so could make it in the spring, might even have another AV by then.
