I am looking for wheel information for my factory Z71 17" wheels.
I did a search but could not find all of the wheel information for my wheels....I am looking to buy aftrmarket wheels but I keep getting asked for more information other than 17x8?
TIA for your help and I apologize if this question has been asked before but I couldn't find the information that I was looking for when doing a search ? :cautious:

I'll try a little:
6 bolt GM pattern
They willlikely want the tire size. 295 x 35? x 17. Check the 35 number on your tire
The overall tire size is 31.6 inches. Rotates 660 times per mile as I recall. They need to know height because if you are going to increase rim you must reduce height of tire or adjust speedo and odom.

Any other specific questions send me an e-mail

Thanks Sparky, this is all kind of new to me (modding) in the past I've just left my vehicles stock.
Hopefully I will be able to gather all of the information I need.....

That's OK. That is what the site is great for. I'm just bumbling along myself :2:

Your stock tires are 265/75/17. The bolt pattern is 6 on 5 1/2". The factory Z71 wheel is 17" x 7 1/2" with a 5 1/2" backspacing. They are also hub-centric.

Thanks Steelheadchaser, this is the exact information that I was looking for ;D

Shame on me :-[ I should have gone out to the garage and looked at the stock side wall myself.
I did not know the pattern or the spacing but the shops knew that when I called.

One thing I have learned today, there maybe more tire options with 20 inch rims if the rim is 10 wide. The Epics I bought are 8.5.

SHC,

Please explain "hub-centric". Sounds like something the ADP guys say...

Aloha,
Murman
(Oahu-centric)

Hub centric means that the wheel is centered by a tight, precise fit to the hub, as opposed to being centered only by the forcing cones of the lug nuts.

OK Steel, your reservior of knowledge is outstanding. Have you got the same data for the 2500 4x4? I'm betting that if I want to change them down here I'll have to get them custom made. :6:

Sorry Skidd, I don't. But I'm sure G-XX or one of the other guys will be able to tell you.

It's got to be cheaper to have some wheels shipped, even if it is half way around the world, than to have them made!

SHC, oh great one (I know there is a bowing smiley but I don't have a copy)
This whole thread has had me looking into things today. I put my stock 17's back on the truck for winter but really miss having the 20's on there.
Is it even possible to but a tire with a range of 9.5-11.5 on an 8.5 rim. Please don't think I've lost my mind. I don't want to do this, but if the answer is no then either Epic or Yokohama has changed the specs on the products I have and then I will have to find out which. Is there anywhere in all the codes printed on a tire that shows what rims it will fit?
Thanks in advance

Sparky, When you say put a tire on 9.5-11.5 range, are you talking about section width of the tire, or is that the recommended wheel size fron the tire manufacturer?

I have no experience with the Yoko's, or with tires of that diameter. I would expect some crowning of the tire though on your 8.5's if those are, in fact, the recommended wheel sizes.

What is your wheel/tire combo and what are the sizes?

SHC,
I have Epic Blix 20's. On their website they quote the rim as an 8.5
On these I have Yoko's 295/45/20. model avs/st. This tire is a little smaller profile than stock. If I were to do over I would try 295/50 or 305/45. On their site they say the 295/45 is for rims 9 to 11". So I am confused :2:
It does not help that they are off the truck right now, stored

Have any of you guys that have swapped out your wheels and tires for 20s checked the speedo to see how far off it is?

How about ride and handling? Was there an improvment or a sacrafice?

thanks!

This thread has brought something up that was noticable to me while deciding what wheel and tire combo to use on my new AV. (It was so easy in the 15" days.) Now, even certain wheels do not work with certain lifts as backspace is so critical. To go on, I noticed many were running 305/70/16 tires on 16x8 wheels and this was recommended to me at the 4Wheel Parts store. However, when talking with genuine tire & wheel dealers (Discount tire, Little Gaint, etc) they say this is not good practice that the 305 should have 10" rims. Is this more of a liabilty in the tire business or are they just being cautious knowing the ceter balloning of a 305 on 8" will never wear like that of a better fitting 295/75 or 285/75? I know many of you run the 305-8" combination, but why were two tire dealerships so aganist this? I ended up going with a 295/75 to gain a tad more height as I was more interested in height than width. 295/75 on 8" is still a couple more inches in width than the Z71 275/17". Backspace of 16x8 vs 17x7 gains some width also.

Sparky, although it may not be optimum, I wouldn't sweat that 1/2". I would keep an eye on tire presssure, and wear patterns on the tread. You may want to draw chalk lines across the treads on all four tires, than watch and see where the chalk wears first. If it is gone from the center, you are over-inflated, if gone from the edges, you are under-inflated. Make small adjustments in pressure until you find the sweet spot.

How's this for a quick response? I've been reading and posting on the GOO line.

I went out and dug up a rim, and yes engraved right on there it says 20 x 8.5.
So yes, I will watch the wear pattern thanks. This is the second item that has bit me on this purchase. The 295/45 is too small to meet stock.
Now that I know what I know I would never have put this combination together.

In looking at tirerack, it looks like there is a Kumo 305 that is set for an 8" rim. Will keep them in mind come replacement time.
Thanks

Jason, the speedo difference is entirely up to the tire diameter. It is possible to have a 20" rim and tire combo with the same O.D. as the original, requiring no speedo adjustment.

-Just a courtesy addition to the great hubcentric explanation provided by Steelheadchaser:

The hub's dimension is 78mm. I'm told that this is the same for the 5-lug design but I can't be certain.

Good luck rreidAV03!

SHC Sparky, although it may not be optimum, I wouldn't sweat that 1/2".

Actually it is an inch (8.5 on rim, tire range listed as 9.5 to 11.5) but what the heck I drove on them for 5 months before winter came.

I have a discovery. Now, I am likely preaching to the choir here in many cases, but I think I have found the right tire for my situation. 20" rim 8.5" wide, where i do not want to change the overall tire size.

It is the Falken STZ01 or STZ04. the 04 being an all season. Size is 295/50/20. Has a load rating of 118 which is closer to stock than many of the other tires. It was measured on a 9.5 rim but lists a range of 8.0 to 10.5. It has an overall diameter of 31.7 and a revs per mile of 663. I used to have this info written down when i was shopping but have since tossed it. But as memory serves this is very close to stock.

If someone can comfirm the stock tire height and revs per mile I would be :)
also if someone sees a problem with this speak up.

Thanks

Stock tire O.D. fo a Z71 just under 31.75". I'll try to dig up the exact # but should get you in the ball park (pretty good seets, too!).
