Came out from a store today & noticed one of my valve caps was gone. Then I looked....they were all gone. :8: Not sure if they went missing today, or if I just noticed them today. They weren't anything real expensive, but I can't believe the nerve of some people. They could have gone to Walmart & bought them for several bucks, but they prefered to lower themselves to stealing mine. I would have paid more than they were worth, just to have caught the person taking them. >:D
Made my next trip to Walmart & replaced them, we'll see how long these last.
Thanks for listening...I feel better now.

People have always stolen air valve caps.....it is why I do not do that mod....

It does nothing but make you madder than hell for $5 worth of shiny...... :8: :E:

I feel sorry for you though as I have felt that pain a long time ago

The nerve of some people :8:

A few months ago I caught a piece of trash stealing my stock front passenger side valve cover. Boy did I make a scene, I thought he was going to cry.

There are a number of people in our society that have no class.

Most drive f**ds ;D

That was a REALLY low blow. I 'm so ashamed :6:

NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!! >:D

Yea, that sucks. I have been lucky but I always keep a close eye on my Avalanche.

If you buy the ones that have the squared off edges with the little plastic/rubber inside to where the valve sits/squishes up against the plastic/rubber, you can tighten them past hand tight with a pair of pliers (I carry a Leatherman in the car) and then the random kid walking by can't just take them unless they are seriously out to get them.
The place that rotates your tires will hate you, but
it sucks to have 20's on with black plastic valve covers!
This is just my advice.

Mod Suggestion:

Have a 12v current supplied to them and trigger it with the panic button. >:D

Hmm... I guess I better go check mine....

Cool.. Mine are still there. I hadn't given them any thought since we bought the AV over a year ago.

Sorry to hear about them taking your :8:

I had my caps stolen the night I got my truck lifted. What I don't understand is how somebody would steal cheap $5 caps vs the $20 caps I had on my 22"s Ugh... I don't get it sometimes. :9:

Grrrrrr! :8: May the same thing happen to the twit that stole them, once he owns his own wheels. See how he likes it. :D:

I hate reading stories like this but think the mod idea of danlwil's is a good one - - wouldn't you just love to see this work?!

Some strong current through the caps sound great.
Maybe I can use superglue....on the outsides of the caps. Then if they like them so much, they can just stay stuck to them. >:D

argh.. i know what ur going thru but i think (i'm hoping) it's a summer thing.. i bought pretty purple caps like 4 months ago.. no problems.. but in the last 2 weeks i've had to replace them 3 times!! and the av was parked in three different places when they were taken :8: :E:

i feel like putting a sign on the truck saying i'll give them the &^%*)% $2 i spend at autozone for new caps, if they'll only leave mine along.. :7: :8: :E:

Bikerchic,
You must be determined. I think by the 3rd time, I would give up. Mine had been on since Nov. without a problem. I would have paid 3x's as much as they are worth just to catch them. >:D

You could rig up some wire to a charged capacitor tucked inside the rim. The only thing is that would through the balance of the tire off. BUT when they touched the cap to remove it they would complete the circuit and get a nice zap ~ depending on the size of the capacitor. >:D >:D >:D >:D

I got the 50 cent "chrome" valve caps on my 20s, that way they match as close as possible, and if they get stolen I'm only out 50 cents ;)

They did it again! :8: Stole my blue valve caps. Little BRATS! Wish I could get my hands on them :E: Noticed it when I washed the truck.
I bought another set...again.... & this time I marked an edge with silver paint. It won't stop them from taking them but I may be losing them when I go to the high school football games. If they go missing again, I will be checking out the caps of the cars in the school lot. If they have a silver edge, I will know who took them.
I thought about putting some silicone clear caulk around the threads. Thought it would make them a little harder to get off, but not so I can't get them off if I need to.
I know this is a stupid little trivial thing but dang, they are mine & those felons can buy their own for about $2.50.
Thanks...I needed to vent. :6:

They always will....probably on their bikes.....I suggest stock flat black caps....or I did see somewhere a safety cap that requires a tool but I would be worried about getting that one off....

GOOD LUCK

just left the stock black ones on.... But the little A$$HOLES stole my hitch cover!!!! I even had the masterlock on the pin

:8: I've had this happen to :cautious:

Just an FYI. If you do tighten the nut type chrome caps make sure you put some antiseize on the threads. I had them on this past winter and practically had to tear the valve stems off the tire to get them of with a wrench and pliers :E:

Another thing to do is just buy a couple extra sets and throw them in the glovebox. There's no accounting for the ignorance of some people so, you might as well be prepared for it ;)

Peace

IM

PS So, far so go with the AV . . . still have my Caps :B:

I have about 90 chromed hex head valve caps,.....I was on e-bay and threw in a bid, which I figured woud be outbid on, and I ended up with 100 of them. I have seen them in the stores for about 3.00 for a set and laugh. A set, would actually cost around $0.80 No one has stolen any of mine ,.....yet. I amagine when I end up going to the highschool football games, with my son, I will have to start replacing them.

We caught a bunch of kids 8-12 years old on bicycles in our parking lot at work. They were going from vehicle to vehicle removing caps. Our office is all glass, so we could see everything they were doing. We caught them, called the cops, and they called their parents.

Wow!! Sorry to hear about everyone's misfortune. Living out here in the San Fran Area I thought I would be the first to have to vent. SO far I have been really lucky in that nothing has been taking off the truck. However I have gotten a few small cuts into my cladding.

LOL, wish I could pick up about 90 of these caps on ebay...by the time I get 3 boys through Middle School & High School sports, I will probably need them.
Went to a game tonight, but left the black plastic ones on for now. Almost time to rotate tires, so I will put them on again after that. (I guess with the tire rotation & tires going front to back, I will have to change tire pressures.)
