On the dash of my 2003 AV there is an elongated storage area netx to the driverside (leftmost) A/C vent. Does anyone know what it is fore? It dosn't seem capable of holding anything useful. Is it for an option I don't have on this truck??? I attached a picture to help.

Thanks
Paul

That will be the new home for the switches for my strobes and neon, hehe...

>:D

(Don't consider it a hole, consider it a mod waiting to happen ;) )

that's where the 02 EXT put their p-folding mirror switch, which the 4x4 variants of the Av fill with Awd, 2wd, 4wd lock, and 4wd low selector buttons.

Like Kimmie said, any cubby hole is a mod waiting to happen! I have filled a few that came with my 02 Av, the hoizonatl one abve the CD garage now sports a factory GM deck, the OnStar cubby (No OnStar) now sports a bunch of Aux Light switches!

yup, 4X4 goes there.

Looks like a great place to keep a wallet for those who get irritated by sitting on theirs while driving (ever see that Seinfeld episode where George has the HUGE wallet that throws his back out? LOL)

I have found that this space holds one of the small radios that I keep on channel 8 for the times I may get to go to a regional. ha. It holds it perfect, and no searching when needed.

Darn, I've only started 2 threads and both of them were in the wrong forum ? I can't pick the right forum but I picked the right truck ;D
The odd thing about this hole is that the bottom is slanted so anything you put in it slides out. It's pitched tward the driver instead of the other way. Just thought it was odd and maybe had a special purpose I didn't know about. I guess I'll have to come up with a mod that will use it ???

I have a question...what is the space directly below the cigarette lighters for? I seen somme your your truck with the same space...its the one that looks like an instrument panel can go in there...it has felt type material in it...

If it can be used for an instrument panel, what are my options...I have been looking for something neat to put there besides ATM receipts :p

I think all that "moving" is what makes the Moderators feel useful. ;)
Gee and GM designed the Av with it's Hiney way up in the air so that wouldn't happen.

I think the space directly below the cig lighter is where an optional tape deck can go. This is true for at least the '02. I had the tape deck but removed it and installed the cubby, much more useful.

On a 2002 with the bench seat option, you can install the Silverado Cup Holder right under the cigarette lighter. It folds down when needed - up and out of the way when not. You can then get rid of the ugly cup holder on the floor in front of the middle seat.

I don't smoke, but I thought the one on the left was about the right size for a cigarette pack. I did have my garage opener in there, but didn't like it on the left side so moved it to the one on the right. I have the 03, & also have the open section below the cigarette lighters. Still haven't found anything good for there, isn't real deep. At the moment I have a small size kleenex box in it. I liked the idea of the extra foldaway cup holder, but it doesn't fit the 03. I am sure I will find a use for all these spaces. ;D

You're absolutely right. A pack of cigarettes fits quite nicely in there
