Storage Pockets on side of bed

I've got the mag light mod

Tow strap, gloves, tool kit, jumper cables, rope, tie downs, bungee cords. 2 hitch ball mounts, pin and clip and still a ton of room

I use mine all the time.

  Yea but I bet you could not drink faster then the Las Vegas heat can melt lol. Even using your arms and legs and a friends lol.
It all depends on how many beers are in there  >:D I drink beer almost as fast as my AV drinks gas

I use it for tools on one side a drinks on the other. Yes the ice does melt faster , but if you put in 2 or 3 bags and 24-30 drinks it will last a while in the heat. Just add another bag later in the day.

Pretty much exactly the same......all the essential working stuff that always needed to be stashed and took up room inside my previous 4x4s going back to my first one in '75. Makes up in spades for the narrow bed.

well i pulled everything out today, looking for my detail brush..  I didnt realize how much i had in there..

driverside - husky toolkit, towstrap, tiedowns..
passenger side - all my detailing supplies..  everything you see here and a little bit more not showing up in the picture...

If I were to put all that in the side compartments I would have to have a fold out ladder that came out automatically to even get that stuff. I can not see into mine from the ground much less reach into them therefore they stay locked and empty

Saw once on here someone selling cooler bags that fit the space. With that coupled with Dry ice or regular ice that the water doesn't drain due to the bag I would imagine it lasting for quite a while. In the full heat of summer here with plugging the holes I find it keeps things really cold for abour 7 hours.

You sure have a lot of stuff in there ajk2000 It looks like you are getting ready to have a garage/yard sale

ya Im a little bit of a wax/products whore....    There is about 400 bucks worth of detail crap in there...  When i first bought the truck i was testing everything..

Only thing i want to try and havent is zaino....  If it was in  stores i would buy it..

Im taking alot of that crap out and putting it in the garage...  Probably save some gas not hauling that crap around..

Try the Zaino.  I've been using it for years on the Vette and there's nothing like it.
Believe me, the shine is breathtaking.
It's expensive when you first get into it, but you won't be buying it again for quite some time...it lasts forever!

I'm taking delivery of my AV next weekend so haven't investigated the possibility but do you think there's any way to somehow line the pocket with some type of blow-in foam insulation? That would be trick. One side for that the other side for stuff...

Chevrolet's brochure states that the side bed storage bins can used as a type of "cooler" for ice and sodas.  My questions is has anyone tried this?  When the ice melts does it drain?  We are leaving to go on vacation next week and if this indeed works I am considering trying this.
:help:

Cool, a KISS fan!! do you find it humorous the Vinny Vincent soap opera unfolding...granted he wasnt a long last guitarist but its still funny...in a non-funny way knowhatimean?

Back to this post, and you've probably gathered it yourself as its answered in one way or the other, but you need something that will line the side. If you have dual exhaust my guess is it wont work but if you dont, use the drivers side. you can use a small tarp or use a heavy duty garbage bag but it does work and yes it does melt fast on hot days so dont go to long without adding more...and, as for the draining, it drains fine...Enjoy

Are they both coolers, because I always wanted to try it just for the fun of it!!!

Yes, the jack-kit is in my passenger side so I use it for jumper cables & stuff I always keep in the truck.

Fits 24-36 cans and 2 10 lb bags of ice easy in one side. Leave one bag unopen for clean ice.
Drop a rag, plastic bag or anything in the bottom to slow the drain if you want ice to last longer.

I have all my car care products in the drivers side, Oil, fluids, tie downs, tools, hitch stuff, tire foam etc...
On the Pass./ Jack side i have misc. towels, shoes, coat sometimes beer on ice..

The problem with buying a truck like an Avalanche used is that you learn about stuff like this by complete accident (or in my case, by reading random threads on this forum).  I had NO idea these side pockets existed until about 20 seconds ago.

I've got a pile of "truck stuff" I used to keep in my old trucks and have been wondering where to put it (tie downs, receiver and ball, small misc. tools, etc.)  Now I know where to put them.

This truck just keeps getting cooler and cooler!

Just got my Avy and it's cool seeing what all can be stored in the side storage pockets of the bed...I have a question however that I hope someone has the answer for...I picked up my Avy used from a dealership...When I went to look at it they couldn't find the keys or the key fob for it so they had to cut a new key for it and program my car for the new key...I asked my salesperson about the storage pockets on the bed and ask her how they lock/unlock and she says they do so by the ignition key which is the only key I got with my truck...I get home and try to lock the storage compartments and the key doesn't work...Is there a separate key that works the side storage compartments?  Thanks in advance...

There should be two key fobs that lock/unlock the truck remote.

The ignition key should open the side bins, tailgate, door/s

I think there was a separate key for the '02 center console

Hey thanks for the info...Mines an 07' with a bench seat...Weird that the key that they cut for my ignition doesn't work for the storage compartments...

Try letting the saddlebag covers drop to close them.  I found that if I gently close them, the latch does not always set fully so that the key can turn.  The key will not turn in the lock unless the cover is fully closed.

I'd take it back to the dealership and make them make you two keys and two remote fobs that work.

wheel is right, you do need to insure the bin is closed tight

There could be a problem with the lock but odds are not on both sides. On the bright side I believe your tool kit to change a tire is still in the passenger sidebin like it is in '02-'06 AVs ?

My point is if my key would not work, unlocked is a good thing

Are you pushing the key to hard so it depresses the latch? That won't work, just try turning the key... Took me a minute to figure that out!
