Storage Pockets on side of bed

Are you pushing the key to hard so it depresses the latch? That won't work, just try turning the key... Took me a minute to figure that out!

Insure it's closed tight like wheelmans said then try AVinSbyCt idea.

I still like my idea better even if you can get the key to work on the side bins,
get the dealer to make you another key, you should always have a spare key anyway

It is possible that the key was not cut 100% causing issues with the saddlebag locks.  That or this would be a great time to add power locks to the saddlebag covers!

If it works in the ignition, door and tailgate but not the sidebins maybe it's a miscut key,...

Maybe someone either changed the sidebins on yours later or someone screwed up the sequence on the assembly line. If it happened on the assembly line then at least one other person has/had the same problem.

Hey everyone thanks for the great replies...The storage compartments turned out to be operator error, MINE...It took a little bit but I got the trick down and now the lock/unlock with ease...As far as the keys/fobs, I got the truck as is...They only gave me (1) ignition key and that's it...But that's ok, I ordered (2) key fobs and (1) spare key from ikeyless.com and only paid $69.85...That's a heck of lot cheaper than what the stealership wanted to charge me...The remotes were a piece of cake to program...Thanks again...

allow me  :beating:  YELOSUB
OHS = operator head space, oops! but you did find your answer here.
No disrepect intended, AVinSbyCt nailed it  (y)

and congrats for getting spare key fobs cheaper than from a dealeer

Try letting the saddlebag covers drop to close them.  I found that if I gently close them, the latch does not always set fully so that the key can turn.  The key will not turn in the lock unless the cover is fully closed.

Exactly what I have to do with mine. Works great. (y)

anyone found a good way to plug those holes and maybe put a threaded stopper in there... i think if the water were able to stay in there it would last longer ???

Once it gets warmer and I actually need it as a cooler, I was thinking of trying a boat drain plug. Just haven't gotten to it yet.

i havent tried this out but thanks for bringing up such a good topic! i would have never thought to turn them into an ice chest!

you mean as a cooler ? use the empty plastic ice bags to plug the drains, let it slow drip,..

it stops dripping you need more ice

I like this but if you want try the can of rubber.  saw it at home depot

I took my '02 camping in 2001 and I think my first post here in '04 was in Pete's Place, "Hey, it's leaking"

I said "it's supposedf to leak",
another guy I was hauling to go tubing on the river said "is it the air conditioner?"

NOPE, it's the beer conditioner  >:D

I think they're water proof from the outside, never checked if it drains though. Would be silly if it doesn't I imagine. Otherwise Chevy would be selling wet vacs.

Looks like that power lock site is "domain for sale" now.  Is a similar product available?  Should just be able to tap into the tailgate lock circuit on newer rigs.

ETA:  Googling found this: http://user1250220.sites.myregisteredsite.com/index.html
Same guy maybe?

Here's some actuators. You would have to fab linkage and mounting.

Did not know they could be used as a cooler. Anyone know where to buy the locks at for these side bed cooler/storage on both sides. I just bought my 2007 avalanche from a used car dealership and they didnt have a key to lock them. The ignition/driver door lock key didnt work, so would like to know where to order the lock assemblys for these. Thanks

You may want to have a locksmith check your storage bin locks, may need lubrication or made to match ignition key. It should be the same key as ignition. If you need new lock cylinders I believe you will have to buy the whole door assembly, I don't believe they sell just the lock cylinders. FYI don't lock the lids and slam shut or they could break. Sometimes you may have to push in on the lock with key inserted to get the lock to turn. To lubricate use graphite or some penetrating lube like that used on guns not WD-40.

make sure you aren't pushing in on the button at all when you are locking it, it should be your ignition key unless they swapped the cylinder

This.  If you push on the lock while locking it will unlatch the cover and the lock won't turn.  Close the cover, then put the key in just until it stops, then turn to lock.

Does anyone have these locks installed?  I am going to try and make a set and need a little more info than what can be found on that web site.  I tried to email that guy and got my email back (not a good address).  Thanks

I've been wondering about this since I bought my avy.  I normally use them to store a tool kit and jumpers on one side and straps on the other.
What doesn't help is that I live on a VERY dusty dirt road and both sides are totally caked in road dust. Been trying to figure out where it all came from, guess the drain hole would be the obvious reason.
