I have noticed a very strong gas smell in the bed of my av when I open the tailgate. Could there be a blocked vent somewhere? The smell is nowhere else.
Thanks Bob

welcome ssnretrwj  :welcome:

ignore the bad bean jokes... our crew can be pretty goofy at times.  :E: >:D    :kidding: Brian

4x4Avalanche  may be right... that could be the problem.... I'd definately have it looked at. Don't take any risks with a gas leak.

Yeah, I am sorry.? It was a poor attempt at humor.? Hope you get the gas problem fixed.
Also, I am trying anything to hit the 1000 post mark, so I am writing what I can.

I thought it was funny... had to tease you!!!

Thanks for the info. My Av  is a 2002 1500. I am going to check around the filler neck tonight.
But Dan the beans are how I hide the fuel smell.
Thanks Bob

Hi ssnretwj,

I have noticed that the AV is sensitive when filling it up. On older vehicles you could pump a few extra gallons past the "full cutoff" by the pump but in my experience once it shuts off the first time you stop and don't try to overfill.
Secondly you need to make sure the gas cap goes back on fully and clicks several times to make sure you don't get a vapor leak from the cap area.
If you have tried all of this then i agree with the above, maybe should take in to a shop you trust to make sure it's not a major problem. If in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia and you don't have a favorite shop. Try Priority Chevrolet in Chesapeake on Military Highway, they will treat you fairly and they do good work. They are also one of the only dealers familiar with the Gatorback for the cladding in this area.

thanks
But I took the back apart and cleaned everything well. and the smell is gone. I think that the previous owners spilt gas or overflowed it.
Now all i got to figure out is how to get out the candle they spilt all over the truck.
The cloth seats have two big wax spills on them.

This might be of some use I remember with my Dodge Ram right before my fuel pump went out, when filling up, it would get near full and then literally start dumping gas out of the top of the fuel tank so you never know could be that

Might try putting ice cubes on the wax to help solidify it and see if you can kind of chip it off.
