Purchased an F150 Supercrew (Screw) new in 2001. The only problem was a power steering unit replaced 3 weeks after purchase. I put 64000 trouble free miles on the truck and averaged 17.6 MPG from the day purchased until traded for my new AV.

I have driven Ford trucks since 1960 as my dad?s brother was a Ford dealer, three weeks ago I went to buy an 04 Screw and was advised that the new seats were firm compared to the 01 Screw. The 04 was quiet, but did not ride as smooth as my 01, handling was only a little better, but by the time I was finished with the test drive (about 1 hr) those firm seats were hard, so I did the unthinkable and said I needed to look around.

Found this site and reviewed the problems with the AV and decided to test drive one. The AV has a softer ride than the Screw, handles better, has a lot less cabin noise, better mileage rating, and has dual climate controls standard(major feature for the spouse). The seats are not firm like the Screw.

Two days later we purchased an AV. The information from the forum made my decision easy, all I had to do was like the product and the AV is really easy to like once you drive one.

Welcome.
I hope yours is as trouble free as mine has been.....
Good to 'meet' you, Welcome Home.

Welcome to the club. You will not be disappointed by buying the truck and you have just made ALOT of friends.

Convert here - Convert there. Me too. >:D

I think numerous people start out looking at a SCrew and end up coming home with an Av. That's my story.

The thing that sealed it for me was that the Ford dealers didn't want my 97 Lariat Supercab in trade (based on their low appraisals) but the Chevy guy did (fair market value). Funny how when you are motivated to buy, some guys aren't motivated to sell unless you agree to their ridiculous terms!

I tried out an '01 S'Crew before I bought my '01 Sierra. I just could not get as comfortable in it as my '99 Sierra. The Av sits just as nice and rides soooo much better. If more truck people would actually drive one the Dealers wouldn't be able to keep 'em in stock. (y) :B:

Wow - sniff! I love reading these kinds of stories. Now if GM would just start sending me commission checks!

OK guys, I am a current SCrew owner and have been very unhappy with my first Ford. Mine is a 2001 with just over 100K miles on it. Let me tell you, I wore out the extended warranty on it with all the problems I had.

Despite the problems, I do like my truck - I have modded it up to look like a Lightning and added a few performance parts - muffler, air intake, Superchips Microtuner. I have to admit, it is pretty quick (still not a Lightning, though).

A friend of mine has an AV with the 5.3L engine and says it is a dog - I can leave him off the line every time and he can never catch up to me.

Here is my question - What is available out there, besides supercharging or going to the 8L engine, to add to the 5.3 to give it more take-off and power?? This is a big factor on whether or not I dump my truck and come back to Chevy.

Lightning, there are many thing, intake, exhaust, programming, that will make a diff. in the 5.3. My personal advice though would be to get the 8.1. The torque is incredible, so is performance in my opinion. I don't miss my 7.3L at all. Good luck, make the jump over, you won't miss it. (y)

Glad you came over to the Darkside my brother!! >:D

Now to get others to our side...... :B:

Welcome to the Family.

Unfortunately, the 8.1L is out of the question. I drive over 100 miles/ day to and from work and the gas mileage would put me in the poorhouse. The same friend who now has the AV used to have a 2500HD with the 8.1L and he averaged 10MPG - no thanks!!

Another question, does the 4.10 rear end give you more take-off?? And because of the low gearing, does it decrease your gas mileage.

PLease hang with me - I understand performance and good gas mileage do not go together, but I have to weigh out all of my options before I make this decision.

the 4.10 helps witht he lowend tq. the 3.73 just lag off the line. As far as milage there is really no noticable diffrence between the 3.73 and 4.10s. Your foot has more bearing on milage than the gears.

Yes, and yes for highway at least. I don't have or need the 4:10 in mine, plenty of takeoff due to the 8.1. My mileage is always 12-13, lot of highway and in town. I also average 100 MP day. I also have done alot of mods to mine, and dog it constantly, I am sure my mileage would go up some if I actually cared enough to try >:D

Welcome to the club. I'm glad you didn't buy the super(screw). There's a wealth of knowledge on this site.

Another SuperCrew convert here. I owned it for 2 1/2 years with no problems (except gas milage & power). It was the only Ford I have ever owned personally, my company has provided me with F@#d F150s for the past several years & have had relatively few problems (except gas milage & Power). I have always joked with my freinds that reason I have all my work truck windows tinted is that I don't want to be recognized driving something that isn't GM. When I first saw the SuperCrew I couldn't resist the lure of it's unconventional appearance. Thank goodness Chevy introduced the Avalanche. It's nice to have the Av available when I want to drive a real truck.

Welcome aboard.....I have to tell you my partner at work has an 02 "Screw" It is a Lariat, which I believe is the top-o-the-line, and everytime I get in it I just think to my self, "Damn my truck is way nicer then this." I mean not only WAY more equiped but the Ford interior is just so bland. I am not a big fan of overly flashy things but I mean come on the old F150 dash looks like a Taurus. I did relay like the look of the new F150 interior when I first saw it but after more closely examining it I noticed that they made it a little to "clean and slick" I thought it lacked usability, not many places to keep things.

A 5.3 engine in a 6000lb truck is never going to run with a Lighting..........but if you are looking for a lot more comfort and utility look at the Avalanche.

I'm totally convinced that once you drive and AV... you can't ever go back....

I've driven Dodges, Fords, Toyotas, Nissans, Even a VW Van...

Nothing... I MEAN NOTHING even comes close to the comfort and handling of the AV.... then the versitility and the fact that it make me L   K Good. ;D ;)

Gotta Luv it  :B:
