Hey Gandolphxx (and other supercharger experts!)

Interesting site noted above - how about an opinion regarding the Vortech vs the Whipple! Certainly different style hardware - what are the pro's and con's of each?

Inquiring minds (and potential mod'rs) want to know!

I was looking up Superchargers today and noticed that they do not make a Whipple for the 1500 5.7 liter. It is only made for the 8.1. ARE THEY KIDDING? I know there are a lot of us here who have these supercharges in their 8.1's but don't you think you have enough power already? ?:). I think the 5.7 guys stand the most to gain from a super charger. Another thing is that there are superchargers made for the 5.7 liter chevy motor. Why is there not one specifically for the Avy?

PowerSurg; I hate to be the bearer of good news, but you can get a Whipple for your 5.3L engine, thats what the 1500 has. Check out Tbryne Motorsports - tell him Gandolphxx sent you and he will give you a great deal :D

NB: you will have to go to GM Trucks -. superchargers & nitrous

OK, here we go:

1. Whipple is the only major brand SC that works with the 8.1L - therefore no choice, but I would do it again - more later!

2. ATI & Vortec are centrifugal - develop lots of power in the high RPM's - higher boost 8-9 lbs. The 5.3L has lots of high end unless your really into racing - more than 6 lbs is straining the engine IMHO. What you need is low end torque which can't be gained from centrifugals or turbos for that matter.

3. Manacharger is similar to the Whipple - highly reccommended by some - can't comment from experience - no 8.1L version.

Check Lots about why I chose the Whipple for more details.

Bottom line is the Whipple works and is there every millimeter of the pedal....... ;D

???gandolph???? for you. i went uptown and talked to the guys at the local speed shop where i pick up some of my items. I graduated,,,,,,,yes i graduated with one of the owners and i asked him about the superchargers and their statement about no internal mod's needed. He stopped me quick and stated that everyone he has sold the guys have come back in and have blown pistons and gaskets and such. What can you add since i know you have plenty of actual experience with this item. i have thought about it, but each time he tells me the same thing. Then again he knows i drive so many miles and would not be a weekend toy.. just wondering what your experience is with it.. are they putting to much pressure??????????

Zeeya, I can't say for sure at this point, maybe I am straining the engine, but it seems fine - will continue to test and check - I have a lot of faith in this long time bigblock design. The easy way to blow the engine is to over boost - an easy temptation, don't give into it - don't mess with the pulleys, try to fake it out.

The centrifugals tend to run higher boost 8 - 9 lbs, that would worry me, especially at sea level as I am. ;D

I have had a couple folks say " now add nitrous", don't think so - will leave that for my trips to the dentist. :p

My mistake. I meant to say 5.3 liters. I am not considering this mod anytime soon. I was more interested in what I thought was the unavailibility of the 5.3 Supercharger and why you 8.1 guys would want to supercharge your engines. By no means am I knocking you guys. I am more impressed and awe struck than anything else!

Got the Whipple for My 5.3.., just haven't had time to install it yet.., many Dealers around this area, are installing them now., and still giving the 3 year, 36000 mile warranty.., Mine told Me to bring the truck down, after I have it installed..., they will check over the install.., and sign off on it., and I will keep My 3 year, 36000 mile warranty.., friend of mine has a Whipple on His 5.3 Suburban..., no problems so far..., You just have to be sure that You dont get any Detonation, and not Lean on the Engine to Much.., and it should Live a Normal Life......

Butch, Butch, Butch...
Now why did you have to go and dangle that out there in front of me like that? ;D ;D ;D I'm going to get myself into some real trouble if I keep cohorting with folks like you.

helmet

Yikes . . .

It's sure easy to get the itch hanging around on this site.

Butch - let us know how the install goes, and what the results are like.

Who knows, maybe you and Gandolphxx can get commissions selling Whipples to the rest of us!

A Whipple is the uptimate FIPK and TBS - once you have it you will never be satisfied with anything less - find out what it is like to have all the power you want, all the time! ;D

Step right up, call the 800 number now and we will throw in a free racing scarf, a $19.95 value.

OK, folks, this way to the egress... :D

LOL..., helmet.., sick with gandolphxx, and I.., and will get Ya into even Bigger Trouble..., ha,ha,ha.., all kidding aside though.., We do alot of Super Charger installs here at the Marina.., and the Whipple has it all over the Vortec, and Prochargers., as far as Raw Brute Torque goes., as far as Reliability goes.., We have some Boats that have over 700 Hours on them.., with No Problems.., with both the Whipple, and Vortec/Procharger Super Chargers on them., both Big, and Small Block Chevys.., as long as there set up Right.., and dont run Lean., or with to much Timing, or Boost.., and You Stay on Top of Your Engine Maintenance.., the Srew, and Roots type Blowers have it all over the Centrifugal types, as far as Usable Torque goes.., and it takes Torque, to move a Big Heavy Boat Fast.... same for a Big Heavy Truck.., its not a Vette or a Mustang.... ;D

I must say I've been feeling fairly Whipple-ish myself lately! ;D I see Butch has JBA headers, and g_xx has TOG's. Assume a header install comes next before going all the way to the whipple? Seems logical. Couple of questions--comments on JBA vs. TOG? What else before the Whipple?

Man....my wife is gonna kill me!!!! ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D

RPH

Both are good quality and will do the job, for the next step. By all means get the headers on before you get Whippled - bear to do after!

So when are you going to order? ;D

You guys are really gonna get me in trouble...I can see the wife now.."The only blower your getting is the leaf blower out of the shed!"...

This is definitely on my wish list....somewhere near the bottom unfortunately.

BTW...I forgot have you guys ran across those people that ask you "Why do you want a fast truck? It's a truck"....I tell them I have a need...a need for speed...and carrying stuff of course.. ;D

So at My last family gathering.., one of My cousins asks Me.., so why did You buy another Big Truck., why didn't You get something more Economical..., so I said.., Looking at His new Honda SUV..., So why did You but a Go-Kart with a body on it.., Ha, Ha, Ha.... :p
