Hey all, first off all let me say that I'm not really an avalanche owner, but I own a Silverado, and it seems that as far as drivetrain is concerned, they are pretty much the same. I've just spent the past few hours reading through the Computer mods section of this forum and I've gotta say it has some of the best info i've found anywhere related to programmers, so that's why i'm posting here to seek an answer to my question.
I have a 2002 Silverado LT with a 5.3. Recently I purchased a superchips microtuner off of ebay. The auction was kindof misleading and I thought i was bidding on the new 2715 programmer, when infact it was an older model 2295. This model is for 2002 model trucks only, and lacks some of the features of the newer version. (I got it for 227.00 shipped so I wasnt too upset.) The question I have seems to be something that a few avalanche drivers are complaining about for the predator. The 1-2 shift @ WOT is really loose. I mean it is bad, almost like you were driving a manual tran. and let the clutch out really slow instead of shifting fast and firm. The shift seems to occur at a good rpm point, but is just really loose. All the other shifts seem fine and i'm pretty pleased with the low end power gain and part throttle shifts.
I'm wondering does anybody know about this model of tuner or any probs with it? One of the things I read about on here was posted by a guy from runninwiththedevil (forgot his name at the moment), and he said something about a maximum shift pressure on 2002 model trucks being some kind of problem. Could this be what is going on? I havent tried to call superchips but I emailed them a couple of weeks ago and never got a response from them. This 1-2 shift thing is really starting to bother me and I know this just CANT be right. Either it's not supposed to do that from the programmer, or they screwed up when they developed the programmer. I've read alot of stuff on this forum about older superchips frying ECM's and it kinda is making me feel lucky I got it to work at all.
Now I'm wanting a predator programmer and thinking about reselling my superchips on ebay, but I think I would be happy with what I've got if there's something I'm overlooking that could fix my problem. This model of tuner has no customizeable settings really except for speed limiter and tire size. So if there's no way to get my programmer reflashed to a newer version or something, I'm just screwed I guess.
Any info or advice you guys might have or picked up somewhere else would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance.
