This is a continuation of the Superchips Warning thread, which has been locked due to its size.

Let get organized here.

Best I can tell from posts, best guess

8.1
sucess = 1
Failure = 2
5.3
sucess = 1
Failure = 3

I think we need a poll
* got programmer for 8.1 not installed
* install 8.1 sucess
* attempt to install 8.1 failed
* got programmer for 5.3 not installed
* install 5.3 sucess
* attempt to install 5.3 failed

Thoughts?
need chips >:D

I think we need a poll for how much I need to start drinking after this. I think that would rate high

I am glad to see a sense of humor Tom. We only have one vehicle and programmer to deal with, you've unfortunately got most of them.

I am at least glad that I received my tuner overnight from another source and was able to raise concern immediately, thus preventing the possibility of a mass PCM meltdown among AV's.

15 AV's all going into the shop for Bad PCM's I am sure would have caught G.M.'s attention.

So what is the recommendation here Tom, is it to return the device? I am getting mixed signals. I have mine that arrived yesterday, but If your gut feeling is to return it, then so be it. I we should hold on to them until an answer comes from SuperChips, then so be it.

I just want to update my PCM.. and there is this little box that keeps calling my name... :9:

Dont toch the box Turpincl !!!
Or you will drive taxi this weekend :9:
No trip to the mountain for me this weekend :6:
My 8,1 is DEAD !
Thanks superchips :7:

Who here believes in Guardian Angels...?
I called TBYRNE today to get a tracking number for my Superchips (I have a Hypertech on the way too, and wanted to make sure I refuse the correct delivery) and was informed that there must have been some kind of misunderstanding... that A SUPERCHIPS WAS NEVER ORDERED FOR ME!! ;D ;D Now... under normal conditions, I'd be mightily P.O.'d, but... in light of all the problems... I lucked out!!! Now... Where's that Hypertech?? >:D

Folks, I need some help here. While nearly all the 5.3L versions of the SuperChip have failed, not much information about the 8.1L version has been posted.

I want to use my SuperChip! Has any of the 8.1L owners tried it?

What should I do? I know the most obvious answer is "Don't attempt it", but if the 8.1 version has had some success, then maybe it's worth a try. ???

So I take it, that getting a superchip programmer for my 5.3 AV would be a BAD thing. Even though 1 person has said that it worked out well for them. :cautious:

Well I guess that's the way it happens, so I will probably just end up waiting for a while, or until Superchips finds out the problem. :6:

Like I posted on the other superchip thread. I installed the program on my 8.1 today and it worked fine. NO issues at all with the installation. I have experienced firmer shifts, more throttle response and pick up when you stomp it. Also see a slight drop in the trans temperature (5-10 degrees). One other thing I had used a half a tank of 91 octane fuel when I did the install. Having burned all or most of the 87 octane out before the install may make a more noticible/positive result. With the program you do need to run the higher octane fuels.

I just talked with a guy from superchips, and he said that they are working on the programmer for our AV's and that it should be fixed and ready for shipping in a month.

That is suggesting that they know what the issue is.

Working for a software company, you never give any dates unless you :

a) know what the issue is and are already working on a soluiton. You also have seen this before and know how long it will take to correct the issue.

b) they have no clue and are trying to get customers off their back and answer questions without any real facts.

Ask me how I know this (I work for a software company) :)

I've worked on plenty of software projects. The marketing folks are great at coming up with deadlines, and then it's my problem to try and meet them. The only time I'm comfortable giving a delivery date is when:

1) The development is done

and

2) The first round of testing is complete and I know that it basically works!

I've see far too many gotcha's pop up. The problem with problems, is that they have no respect for schedules! :7:

I was already a beta site for 2295 rev E, I'll pass on the next version.

What do you mean by you were already a beta site for rev E ?

If they are working on a real update for the AV, I want to send mine back when they do it.

The term "beta site" is used in the computer industry where manufactures send their preproduction products to select customers for real life testing. ?I.E. we're a Microsoft Partner so we receive pre-lease versions of all their software at no charge and in return we notify them of the bugs we find.

Unfortunately Superchips charged us to be a beta site as version E obviously doesn?t have all the bugs out of it.

I am not sure that I would qualify it as a beta product... It would appear to still be in the alpha stage... :rolleyes:

Seems I'm behind the curve on this. I went ahead and tried the Superchip tuner, got through the stock progam being saved then it sat there for 20+ min. I gave up switched the ignition off, removed the neg. cable and all was well again.

So, I went ahead and got an RMA#, but I'm not sure I'm willing to wait for them to fix the problem. Is Tom taking these back or am I stuck with it?

Just thought I'd get some feedback/recomendation before I called Tom. Thanks!

I'm confused, who did you get the RMA from? Tom will take them back and issue as refund, you have to get the RMA from T Byrne Motorsports.

LOL! I'm confused too as I get to read about half the posts that I need to.

Inside the Superchip box was a yellow tag with instructions for a RMA #. That's the one I have but it's just for SC to take it back, fix it and return it to me. I thought that was what everyone was doing. But then I found out that nobody knows when or if Superchips will resolve the issue and I had not seen the info to return to T Byrne.

I'll call T Byrne and get the RMA for a refund. Thanks for the help!

Sorry for the confusion...I've been too damn busy lately to keep my s*$t straight!

Obviously, this comes WWWaaAAaAAYYyyYYYyyy late but, I just bought a superchips tuner for my 8.1 and it is AWESOME!!!

One thing i did notice is that the engine seems to run a wee bit hotter.. anyone here have similar experiences???

Yes mine runs a bit hot as well but i too feel very happy about the perfromance with it and the 8.1  :drive: One thing i have a problem with is the damm price of Super unleaded...... :E:
