Surveillance Cameras

Don't know if anyone can help or not but, I doubt I am the only one wanting to keep and eye on my Avalanche.

Does anyone have their driveway under infrared video surveillance? I have looked on eBay and not quite sure what I need.

My driveway is around 50 feet long, so I'd like to be able to monitor it all at night. So I'd need a camera with a long range nightview.

Also, I would need to tape the surveillance for about 6 hours at night. Is there a monitor available with built in VCR? Do I need to go with a time-lapse vcr?

Now, who can help me out or lead me in the right direction?

Thanks!

I am actually trying to figure out a way to take video from inside my truck of what is going on outside. I have a laptop and a small digital video camara. I have everything I need accept the power supply. If I left my Computer plugged into the cigarette lighter my truck would be dead in the morning or when I got home from work. I really want to knowwhat people are doing around my truck when I am not around it. Those little Bastards took my valve cover caps again and now I am fuming. The software that comes with the camara is pretty cool. It will email pictures to my of whatever moves in front of the camara.

Well actually I saw a camera on eBay that will do what you are trying to achieve. Its a pretty cool deal. It is totally wireless unlike most. It works of a battery and records the images into a built in processor. You then take the camera inside and hook to you tv to retrieve the pictures. I believe it also has an optional adapter to connect to plug into your acc. ports.

It also has a keychain remote similar to your door lock remote.

Only trouble is...what if you don't have it in the right position? Thats why I'd like to monitor the whole outside.

I'm not sure how to do links on here but let me try:

Well Shoe I don't know what kind of surveilence camera will help, but might I suggest what I use;a dog.Not a mean one,a semi-nervous ?trained dog.She barks at any unusual noise or smell, she's a house dog but if anything enters are property, she's imediately at the nearest door barking.Knock on wood I have never had anything messed with on my property. And as a plus she's fun to play with (black lab)

Well, as a matter of act I also have a Lab. She isn't much of a security dog though. She sleeps deeper than me ;D So scratch that idea.

Really need video or something

Check out www.x10.com. They have wireless camera systems that can send to your VCR. They even have an 'instant-on' camera built in to a motion detector - floodlight combination.

I have used a couple of their products and the picture quality is GREAT. :) Surprising how they do it with such a small package.

I have an X-10 system hooked up to my house. I have 4 cameras positioned around the house, each hooked up to a motion sensor, and a spot light. When the motion sensor detects movement, it turns on the spotlight and the camera, and activates the VCR to record.

They have all types of plug together modules that will do what you need. I like having the spotlights come on because it tends to frighten off whatever was there in the first place, and allows the camera to see what is going on at night, without needing IR.

Spork-meister, I would be curious to know what pieces you have and how they are hooked up. Call me very intrigued...

I have:
4 xcam2,
1 VCR Commander (this turns on/off the vcr, and coordinates which camera is recording)
4 motion sensing spotlights. (trigers the vcr commander, and nearest cammera.

There are instructions with all the equipment that explains how to hook it up.

word of warning, the wireless reciever/transmitters don't work very well through brick. Also, the "ninja pan and tilt" base is designed to be mounted on top of something, and not below (I have one for the front door, and it is mounted under the eave, so all the controls are backwards).

And, if you want to get really creative, I guess they have a system so that you can hook up all the survailence to your computer, and watch it anywhere over the internet. (I haven't tried it, so I don't know how well it works).
