Tailgate stuck

Greetings,

I went to unload my AV the other day and could not get the tailgate open. (Yes, I unlocked it...LOL). It seemed like it was unlatching on the passenger side, but no dice on the driver's side. Has anyone else experienced any similar problems? I hope it's something simple like a latch misaligned. I have an appointment at the dealer's this afternoon, I'll let you know the outcome.

Regards,

JoBu

SEARch for this as it happend to someone on here a long long time ago.......
Dayum forget his name too....but someone gave him the solution.....

I had that in my old truck. One of the rods inside of the handle came off, it was a quick fix though. Hope its as simple for you.

My experience with the Tailgate getting stuck was when I was installing my back-up camera in the Tailgate bezel. I didn't line the key lockup properly when I reinstalled it. Then I couldn't unlock the tailgate once it was closed. I finally realized what I had done and reached under the handle and was able to snap the keylock onto the engaging arm of the tailgate handle. This wasn't easy to do but luckily I got long fingers. Hope this helps.

In post What The Hell Was That AtankZ71 wrote; In the manual it says make sure you use both hands to close. It needs shut properly for the water management system. I learned the hard way by shutting it & locking it (even though when I locked it the lock gave me a lot of resistance) - then I couldn't get the darn thing open. I ended up banging on both sides of the tailgate so they would catch. Once they did I could open it. I think the tailgate just like the midgate is just touchy and you need to hit it right for it to close properly. just my 2 cents.
There was another one....the member was named kojak....or koscak...or something with a K...

Thanks for the information... Next time I'll do a search before posting. I just picked up my AV from the dealership. Apparently the piece that acuates the rods came off. Simple fix and no charge. I think it is just a fluke, but it's nice to know I can find solutions here if it occurs again in the future.

Thanks again,

Joe

I had the EXACT same problem. I got it to the dealership a couple of days ago, and it was a 45 minute (if that) fix. The "left side bar" of the tailgate "disconnected from the retainer" -- so they repaired that, lubed the latch and lock, and it works like a charm now.

This is a great website -- glad I finally have something to contribute!

I open and close my tailgate approx 30 times a day.... I use it primarily for work.

So far so good but I'm going to watch how I close it a bit more carefully.

I'd be in a lot of trouble it sticks

Thanks for the heads up!
