Tailgate torsion bar lift assist (removes 70% tailgate weight)

The support webbing in the 02 AV tailgates are different than 03 up. There is a post around here about that. They found out the hard way also.

It is hard to miss. It doesn't look like the aftermarket one where you have to drill into the frame.  It is built into the bump out on the tailgate side.  If you look at the left and right sides of the tailgate they look different.
I disagree with this comment...maybe they put some springs on, but there is NOT a torsion bar - my gate is much heavier on my 07.  (Didit and Butch both looked at it Easter weekend)

Has anyone tried to put a bar on an 07 with a stock camera in the gate?

I am not sure that the wires are the problem (or should I say the only problem) on the 2007, best be careful and study this a little before attempting it.......

And I'm not sure I want my AV to be the 'test subject'!  :help:

The only thing that I know is a member with the newer body style bought a SnugTop off of a older Avalanche and it would not fit because of the difference in the tailgate. He is a strong modder and he did not attempt to make it fit. Also I wonder about any built-in tailgate assist that is already there, have you had your tailgate off? I am not saying that it will not fit but would want to see if it has been done on other newer Avalanches and is there were any concerns......

Well...once concern I have is where the wiring is going once inside the tailgate.  I'd hate to cut the camera or lock wires pushing that rod in.  And, who knows how many more supports they put in the tailgate as well...

I'd REALLY like to get it done, though...dang thing is heavy!!  :E:

Just put a couple of screen door springs on it, that should help.  >:D

Yea, I agree you should let someone else be the 'test subject' on this one.

Fine then, one less to do, woohoooo, ya know thats what they make eyeballs for, to be able to use and read a tape measure and study the indentations on the body, the bottom of the tail gate makes no difference, and if you think for one minute that I would mess up your AV without a care, your grossly mistaken, uh the wires go  the camera which is well behind where the EZ Lift rod goes into the tailgate, no faith, that makes me sad, sniff, lol.

I had you modding my Avalanche last weekend with a table saw, is that enough faith?

Finally installed the torsion bar after picking it up  at BigC's GTG back in March. Two words... "Love It."

We could "snap" one on for him pretty quickly!!!!

Is anyone else having an issue with seeing _gadgets_ photo's on the first posts?  I'm a visual guy and need to see the photos

thanks

Matt

I had one on my 05 silverado and loved it, but now I have an EXT 2011 and was curious which ezdown to buy?  I love being able to pull on the handle and walk away and know the tailgate opens by itself...  Let me know, which works the best, I just need something to help lower the gate...  Thanks again for the help.

I'm glad I found this, my '99 Tahoe had a torsion bar on the rear gate and it was amazing how light it was. I really missed that when I bought my AV. As soon as I find a place to buy it here I'll be doing this.

For anyone in Alberta/BC, it appears that Interior Off Road carries these, at least their website says so.

I can't see why the EZ down for a NBS silverado would not fit the NBS Avalanches or EXT

Just buy one for any full size truck. if you have cladding like i do, just move the whole over about 1 inch to avoid the bends in the torsion bar.
