CAUTION on removing blue tape on lights on AV.

Guys and gals, that tape is there for a reason and so is the hole. If you are planning strobe instals, I suggest you drill your own hole and dont take the shortcut of using the existing hole.

That hole is there to allow moisture buildup to escape. The tape over the hole is breathable tape. The tape is there to keep bugs and stuff out of your lights. In the long run, you will have mold mildew and other nasty corrosion set in your lights if you plug this hole with a strobe. :-[ If you remove the tape, be prepared to pursuade a dirt dobber, wasp, bee, moth ..... to get out of your light!!!

Just some advice for those planning on messin with the blue tape on the lights. ;)

I don't recall seeing blue tape - which lights are you talking about? head lights, DRL's Driving?

On the blinker assembly is where I first saw it. It is a small round blue piece of tape. I was told it is on all the light assemblies. I know for a fact it is on the blinker assembly because I went out to the AV and pulled the blinker assembly off to try to describe it. In fact, I will take a picture of it right here while I am on the computer. This will be interesting!!!! Excuse the old fashion oak desk.

Wiki, ? How did you figure this one out. ?There must be story 'bout it.
I don't know how he figured it out, but I know that this has become a common thing. I learned about it in auto shop some odd years ago when it was just being introduced, and now I work in the medical device field where adhesives are a major product line and I see breathable materials being used more and more often in automotive applications. A couple years ago I read in DesignNews about this specific light housing application. I pick up on all the automotive topics while I'm researching because I love cars and must absorb all that is within reach.

If the blue tape is there to cover a hole to let moisture out, they must not have done it to the DRL/Fog light cluster because many members here and myself have had one replaced because of condensation build up. :B:
