Hey all,

Got a question. I have the GM Avalanche Tent (though haven't set it up yet, since it's been around 0 degrees lately). I want to buy a mattress for the bed of the truck. Sportz makes a mattress that's 52" wide. They think it'll work even though our beds are 50" wide.

So, here's the question. Does anyone have a GM Mattress for the Avalanche? If so, does it have a built in inflator? I want to know if it is worth twice the price of the Sportz mattress.

Thanks for the help!!

I haven't seen an AV mattress but, I do have a Pontiac Aztec with it's tent and mattress that will work. The Pontiac mattress is black vinyl with a black felt top surface. It does have a built in pump, plus other large opening for inflation and a small mouth size one for topping off. It does have the Aztec logo on the side in silver. Aside from the built in pump, color, and logo, it's probably not too much different than a good one you can find on the market. It is just as thick as a Coleman one that I also have. The only good thing about it is the following. I got mine and used it twice before I noticed a slow leak. It took about 45 minutes to deflate from full until you butt was touching the floor. According to my receipt that I got with it from the dealer was the fact that all GM accessories carry a 12 month warranty from manufacturers defects. That being said, I promptly returned it for "service". Since the mechanics at the dealer could only confirm that it did have a leak, and could not find it, they ordered me a new one no charge. You may have a hard time doing that at your local sports store.

I saw a mattress in the BASE CAMP concept version of the Avalanche. I bet they have one.

speaking of base camp.... has anyone found out any more information about the base camp concept, and if they are going to offer that tent for sale?

SPORK I wanna know too cause I want that tailgate and the little fridge hooked into the trailer receiver.

I can see myself now tailgating at an LSU football game cooking burgers and stuff on my truck's stove while other bust out BBQ pitts and crap. Then I wash my hands in the sink and pull a cold one out of the fridge.

I want the BASE CAMP tailgate and I want it now!!!

Why not just fill each side saddle container with ice and beer - they put holes in to drain the water ;D

GM Accessories has a fitted air mattress for the Av, part # 12498027. Hope this helps.

But I want the stove!!! ;D

the stove is nice, but I want the sink! and the square tent, looks like so much more room than the igloo style one.

I ordered the igloo style GM tent this week even though I really want the "square one". We have some camping coming up in a few weeks, and I just had to have it.
When we can figure out how to get our hands on the other tent, I'll be offering this tent for a real deal here on the board. ;D

Well, it looks as though some of you offered some good
information on the mattress. I also noticed the
discussion went a little afield of what I had in mind from my initial question.

I still haven't gotten a mattress, but my tent arrived (ordered from GMPartsDirect). I set it up as a dry run yesterday. It took a little time, probably because it's the first tent I've put up since I was 8 years old. It was also the first time I had removed my bed covers. Anyway, I thought the igloo was quite roomy. Plenty of room for my wife, son, and I to sleep if I include the rear seat area. I don't think I'd want to stay in it on a rainy day, but for my purposes, it's perfect.

Thanks for all of your ideas and comments.

I have the GM matress for the Av..I have not inflated it yet but it comes with a pump. You can always get a 12 volt air pump also. Should not be a big concern.. I have the tent also but have not tried it yet.

I looked at the mattress from GM and ended up with a full size 76 x 48 felt top one from a sporting goods store for 19.00 add in the 12 volt inflator pump which was 9.99 and I can buy about 5 of them before equaling the cost of the GM. It was a cheap addition to the emergency kit.
