Hi,

I just found a used Av tent. Got it for $40. Everything is there except for the following...

1. The elastic cord in one of the poles is broken. Makes it a bit tricky when setting up the tent. Has anyone had to repair/replace the elastic inside the pole? A little help? ???

2. The tent didn't come with any instructions. I set it up in my driveway. It work all right, but the fit didn't seem right. Everything was a bit too "tight" and was stretching? Any tips/tricks to setting up the tent? What's the best way to proceed? Anthing useful in the manual that comes with the tent? Anyone have it in PDF? ;)

3. The fly also seemed very very tight. Too tight. Maybe I did something wrong.

HELP!!!

Thanks for any advice from any AV tent vetrans. I am looking to go camping in a couple of weeks.

Wow Brebin.... what a deal... 40 bucks

GL on getting it fixed

I've no idea where to get strech cord like that... You might try a main line sporting goods store i.e. Gart or REI. If not ... how about regular elastic?

The shock cord can be easily repaired. Your local sporting goods store should be able to supply you with the necessary materials and instructions to complete the replacement of the shock cord. I have seen repair details on line but can't seem to find it quickly tonight. Coughlin's makes a kit: http://www.campinggurus.com/cogtenpolrep.html

If you are stretching the seams then you are probably doing something wrong. The first time I did set-up I didn't bother reading the instructions and there was a lot of strain going on. I will scan the set up instructions tomorrow and send them to you. But first I have to find them! ;D

We've used the tent many times and it works great. Our's does not go on tight. It can be pulled tight after installation but the seams never seem stressed. The instructions worked great, I'll see if I can copy them somehow (scan them maybe).

brebin,

Your tent shouldn't fit to tight. The first time I set mine up I didn't have the directions and it complicated things a tad.

First do a search on "Tent" and you should see quite a bit of info as well as some pics. When actually putting it on your AV, it's all about strap placement. Make sure all of your straps are fully loosened before you start. I will work on directions as well.
$40 is a killer deal. Way to go!!

Later.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I went out and got a shock cord repair kit for the tent pole. I'm going to try and set it up again this weekend. Thanks again!!! :)

I'll repost them as a PDF later tonight - careful searching here will lead you to them as well.

Thats how I found this thread...seems everything leads to dead links...

Is yours w/ or w/o Awning?

Without.  The awning shouldn't be terribly difficult to figure out if you can actually make the basic directions make sense :)

No problem.

In fact, when I looked at it, it seems to have the awning in the instructions.

I fixed the cord in one of my conventional tents.  It took me a few attempts to get it tight like it should be, but it works.  Just a bit of advice.  With any tent, be careful not to drop the poles on their ends when they're collapsed.  That is how I broke my cord in the first place.  The cord is exposed on the ends.  When the pole is dropped, the edge of the poles metal sleeve can cut the cord.
