Testing 4 wheel drive

I did a quick search, no luck.

So I want to make sure my 4 wheel system is good on my new to me 04 AV. How can you test it in a drive way on road? no warning lights on about the 4 wheel system. When I click it into 4 wheel while in park i can hear something engage.

The noise is the actuator. Tighter turns in the lot will feel different when 4x4 is engaged. You don't have a hill you can climb in 2wd and 4wd to check? As they say on Monday Night Football-Cmon man!

It works, I do, but i have to drive fuhrer out into the country. My friend told me how to get it in 4 low and I could tell a huge difference lol.

Newbie, coming from a trans am and a charger. First 4 wheel drive I have owned.  :E:

Be careful with it and don't feel invincible because you now have 4x4. Look for your rear diff code at the glove compartment and see if you have a locked diff. Code I believe is G80. Driving around on dry pavement is not recommended with 4x4 on.

Agreed.

In any case do you have boulders or a small rock you can climb? I'm only sayin that because that's usually how I test my 4WD in my driveway/front yard :)

I also agree, try to  avoid putting in 4wd on dry pavement, especially turning. Take your AV to a dirt area or other loose surface then put it in 4wd. How many miles does it have and has the drive line been serviced? Look online or in manual for service intervals, changing fluids and filters is cheap insurance and allows you to find small problems before they become large problems.

Glad I found this forum, this is super useful as I just got my 2011 Z71 and was curious about testing the 4x4 myself. Thanks for the info guys!
