These things are addictive.
I started on my AVALANCHE on the cladding. Then the electrical center. The VORTEC, then a couple of clip tops on the top. Those rubber hood vibration things in th the front corners. Then right above the hood latch I found a decent size piece for my ? ?>>>-- FSU ---> ? Autograph!

This is a black metal piece that is ?very easy to paint over, if you dare sell!

What else have you done?

fyi- walmart - 3 pens (red, black, white - the had other combos) $5 in hobby section near toys.

watch out for other pens. the first one i bought - which i tested on my electrical center was the perfect ?red.....until i put it on - it came out NEON PINK!

how many coats do you need on the cladding? I'm at 3.

I saw that.

i'm thinking about doing the inside circle in red and the white bowtie.

Good mod.

I have only 2 (black) coats on mine and it looks good to me.

I used "uniPAINT opaque oil-base paint marker" I found at an art supply store.

"Exclusively made by Mitsubishi Pencil Co. for Sanford Corporation Bellwood, IL 60104 MADE IN JAPAN"

So far, so good.

FSUGUY--I see we both shop at Wal-Mart. I got the same combo package. I've painted the AV lettering on the sides and tailgate cladding black and the bowties on my GM splash guards. I've done two coats. So far, so good.

I like the key mod. ;D I think that's next

Truckman :B:

I think I'm going to get a red paint pen to paint the raised outline of the bowtie on the steering wheel, or better yet... fill-in the horn insigina on the steering wheel....

Does anyone think that the paint would rub off if you clean the steering wheel?

Hard telling on the possible ruboff when cleaning.

Plastic/vinyl does some strange things.

If the paint would stick at all, a light damp wiping shouldn't hurt.

I originally planned on painting the Bowties on my wheels.
But I wasn't sure if that would F*** them up.

wheels are too expensive.

I think you could buy just another set of centercaps. You would've have to buy brand new wheels.

that's what i meant....but we all know how the Chevy house likes to make a big profit on the little parts.

Ok, time for some paint advice. Testor makes both Acrylic and Enamel paint pens. Which type is for what kind of surface/finish? And which ones are you using on your AV?

Hmm... seems Acrylic is water based and cleans up with same. Enamel is oil based and needs paint thinner to come off. Still doesn't help for which should be used on an AV unless Acrylic comes off with water once it's dry.

I attempted one coat of Testors gold enamel on the cladding letters. However, it was really too cold for application (43 degrees). The pen point was too firm and the paint was not flowing even enough. I will wait until a warmer day to apply the second coat. Even though the paint looks somewhat thin, I still love the highlighted cladding letters.

FSUguy - do you mean the electrical center under the hood where the fuses are? What did you paint? You also painted the VORTEC - will this paint hold up well to heat?

I read others used Enamel. I was thinking Acrylic might come off easier being water based. I Ain't no paint expert.

I painted my bowties on my center cap with a enamel paint pen then put a coat or two of clear-coat on.... so did WVBubba. I painted the center of the bowtie black and left the gold outline. They really look good with my black AV .

I had to remove the paint once or twice myself, to get it just right.I used some Acrylic Lacquer Thiner on a Q-tip and it came right off and didn't hurt the wheel cap. You can get this at any auto store. This stuff works even after the paint is dry. Good luck! ;D

the letters on the Fuse box - yes. A good place to test the pen.

VORTEC - I don't know how hot that gets(i don't it gets that hot though). I'll keep my eye on it. just did it last night,. I think I saw somebody else do it before on another thread.
as for the cladding, I'm impatient. That's probably why I'm putting on extra coats.

A lot of people are just getting electrical tape and using that on the bowties on their wheels. I had printed out some checkered flag print, laminated it and stuck it to my bowties....but alas, when water got to them, they smeared and I just removed them with some WD40....

Bowtie

I bought several colors of pens and reading all these posts has given me way too many ideas - for sure the bowties on my mud gaurds, maybe my wheel center caps, probably the key bowtie (good one) and under the hood accents, kinda lookin around for something unique but you guys got it all covered. ;)

Here's mine for comparison, I got a blue AV also..

Man.. you guys are doing it all ... must be really easy to "stay in the lines" while coloring...

Do they have a clear coat pen as well to protect the color?? Very cool work (y) Great job guys...

What retail store do you find has the greatest selection?? ??? ??? I did find testors.com has them but I don't like the "color chips..." I would want to see them in person...
