The Bench Seat With Leather, power Lumber, heaters

They designed a beautiful bench seat and didn't finish it in my opinion. I would think many people would prefer this and get it.
Should have:
Leather
All power including lumbar support
heaters

One local guy here got the bench and had it done in leather after market. Looked great!

I can't get pics because he must have moved as i don't see it around anymore. It was also 'all white'.

I agree, that GM looks at the bench seat as more of a "lower-class" or cheapie option, than a flexibility option. That'
s why they don't offer leather, power, or lumbars with them.

Chev really should treat the front bench seat a little kinder. The option of power everything and leather would be welcome to those folks who must have seating for three across the front. I think that most people that get the bench get it for capacity rather than cost savings.

I think the way to go with the bench seat is to make it a 60/40 or 70/30 split. Much more functional for both driver and passenger and of course add all of the goodies as an option. Believe it or not there are some that still want a cheep/basic version of everything. :B:

Add me to the list of folks that think the bench seat deserves more respect.

Add leather, a power passenger's seat, heaters, and get rid of the stupid floor mounted cup holder in favor of the Silverado fold down cup holder

More cup holder info here

I've added the Silverado cup holder to mine, but removing ?the floor mounted one requires unbolting both front seats - haven't found time to do that yet!.

The 40/20/40 is perfect for me, and was the reason I had to special order. When GM started pumping them out to dealers back in 06/01 they were all buckets. The 40/20/40 is great as you get an armrest when not in use and the kid fits perfect in it.
I would have gone for leather as well if it had been an option

You get folding inboard armrests with the buckets, also. At least with the cloth. >:D

Same with the leather.

I bought a 2000 GMC Sierra prior to the AV. It had the 40/20/40 bench in it as well, BUT it had dual power seats. So you know they can do it. You would think that sense the AV already comes pretty loaded even in the base model that GM could throw in just one more treat. >:D

That is a great idea to add leather and power everything to the front bench (y). We have the front bench as well.

What was somewhat of an insult when we were looking to buy an AV, all we wanted was exactly what we got: a green Z71 AV with the front bench. At first, we were told that there was no such thing as a Z71 with the bench seat because GM prides themselves on making Z71s well equipped and the bench wasn't fancy enough :7:. Well, obviously that wasn't the case; we found at least three of them. That sure surprised the sales department!

I like the idea of giving the front bench better treatment.

I agree with all of you. I too was looking for the bench seat for the seating capacity when the rears are down, but the 2 button memory is the nuts when you have a 5'3" wife and me being 6'2". Of course, only available with the expensive buckets.

Personally, I like my cloth buckets and center console, but I wish that they also had all the power options, lumbar, heaters, memory, etc. I want it all, except for the leather. I prefer the cloth, but resent that I had to give up so much to get it. :8:

It's basically the same rant... just a little different.

No z-71s with benches? That dealer must be crazy! :7: Nearly everyone here who has a bench seat has a z-71!

Glad you 'surprised' them.

P.S. I think the dealer was just trying to get you to buy a z-71 with buckets so that you would have to pay him more.

I agree (y). They just figured that there was no such thing because it wasn't on their lot. So on to GMBuypower I went and I found two AV's that were exactly what we wanted. We went after the first one, agreed on a deal, and all that had to be done was to have it sent to the dealership we were buying from. Then we discovered that that one was sold from under us . I just figured no problem, there's another one that we can get. Well, it took that one 2 weeks to get in but it was well worth the wait!

(250 posts makes me a Zealot now!)

add me to the list of those who HAD to have the bench..

i only had three requirements and one request.. bench, 4x4, pewter definitely and maybe a sunroof... dealers kept trying to sell me the buckets saying a truck with the sunroof only came with the buckets, i would have to special order it.. one even told me i couldn't order it at all.. :8:

finally gave up on the sunroof cuz i got tired of lookin and the $$ was nice, but i've fit three large adults on my av's bench very comfortably..

and i found the bench just as if not more comfortable than the bucket.. :B:

When I first started looking at Av's for my mother, the one thing she was sure that she wanted was a bench seat, mainly because after a month with a new 2002 Buick LeSabre rental that had it, she couldn't give it up. But, she also wanted a 2wd, and the only one I could find that met her specs. was a black Z66 with graphite bench & conveniance pack. about 2 hours away. Not a far distance, but she really didn't want to drive, so we kept looking.

The first one we actually test drove was a demo., Sunset Orange Z71 with graphite bench and the WOL. We both loved the bench, but this was a 4wd and had 6k miles on it, and the deal just wasn't good enough. So, in the end, she ended up "settling" for the buckets, because it's all I could find in the area. Getting an Av because of needing more room, we wanted the bench both for added comfort and being able to fit six people inside, instead of 5.

I don't know why the bench is offered as just the "cheap base option", because it's really a desirable thing. Even worse, now in the 2003, they even took the lubar adjustments out! Now the only thing it has is a few power movements on the driver's side.

Oh, and as far as dealers not having the bench seat Av's in stock often, this dealer we drove the SOM Z71 at usually orders 75% of his Av stock with the bench! When we were looking, they had four Z71's with the bench, and one with leather buckets. Now, as the end of the model year closes, they just got in a pewter 2wd with the Z66 pack. and WOL tires as the only options, when 02's were still being made. It now is the only 02' left, sitting outside by the road with a big "SALE!" sign in the windshield. I told her about it, and you wouldn't believe how disappointed she was that it wasn't there back in March :(.

The cloth buckets are really nice and comfortable, I just think we would have more enjoyed the bench if possible. Wonder if we can convince GM to move the bench seat upscale a little bit, with a repeated suggestions or something...?

A cool completely powered leather bench seat up front would be great. I cannot see why they don't offer this. Especially since the Av doesn't have a 3rd row seat, the extra position up front is really handy. Not to mention, handy for other things such as laying down for a brief rest , sitting next to your sweety, and just having a bit more room to scooch around on long trips.

I would have loved the Memory seats also. I like the cloth but Dual power with Memory would have been exactly what I wanted. Short wifes can be a pain when you crush your knees getting into your truck after she has moved the seat. I think we argue about this as much as we argue about the toilet seat not being left up. How about a memory seat for a toilet, I would certainly buy that. Now how can I change my name on this post where she can't tell it was me who wrote it?
It would have been nice to have the little cubby hole front console also. I'm currently ordering it from Dal Slabough (Vandevere).
What a great guy to deal with. I'm still hoping he will find something to plug that hole where the center console slides up against the cubby hole console.
