Well guy's, I finally got the headers installed.
Drove out of the lot, and the 'oil service light" was on ( I said to my self oh S*^T
here we go again) after about 2 min. it when off I drove about 100 miles (I took the long way home)
The truck ran great and yes you can feel the power along the entire rev. band.

I passed by my locall stomping grounds and did a drive by, by the time I walked in the house my wife said "so how are the headers" I said how did you know I got them on? she said the phone hasn't stopped ringing for the last 10 min. your buddies heard you drive by... I starded luaghing.

Any way I'll give it the rest of the week to test them out, and give the truck a chance to get used to them.

Hey Gene...... Congrats on the headers, They are the only way to go... You said the "oil service lite" is on? Are you sure its not the "service engine soon" lite? I had that lite come on after my TOG install.... I said oh S#%& too ! It was one of the o2 sensors that didnt get plugged all the way back in....Trace the wires going back from the o2 sensors in the headers. Make sure all is tight and connected. If it is just the change oil lite, I think thats just for oil only, not an emmissions problem detected. (I think)
11H was very helpful with my problem... You might want to read the thread in this forum called "service eng soon lite after TOG install"

In the thread I mentioned above.......11h explains how to clear the "service eng soon" message.... If you find something unplugged, which I hope you do, reconnect plug(s) Then just follow his steps to reset the comp. to get rid of the message. I hope this helps........

Thanks, and the noice level did not really increase that much from the system I have on already.

As to the oil light, thats what it was "change oil" not the service engine light.
The light did not stay on for a long time, and when I got home I tried to re-set it, and seems ok now. Started up the truck this morning and no light came on.

Awesome!!! I heard those things kick butt. I have a couple of questions....

On a scale of 1 to 10; 1 being stock 10 being obnoxiously loud, how loud are they?

How much did they charge for the install?

What was the turn around time?

What other modifications have you done, what are the specs on your truck, and is there a noticeable difference?

How is the clearance with the sparkplug wires? Were any mods necessary to make them fit and and not burn on the headers?

I have been considering this modification as I have put headers on previous trucks, just wanted to gather some information. Thanks in advance

Lightning, here's the scoop...
Yes they do kick BUT BIG TIME.

Loudness, hmmm that's a hard one, as I have my own dual exhaust system on the truck (custom made from a friend of mine who builds racecars) so she does rasp abit, But iff I had to give a # I would say it's about 3-4 max. from a stock AV (maybe some of the other members with these on there AV could better answer that)

Nothing really (friends shop) It took them 2:20 from the time they put on the hoist to the time they took it off)

Turn around time, I take it you mean to get the headers here from TOG... I had them shipped to a performance shop in Detroit and it took 3 days to get there, and them the owner of the shop I had the headers and other goodies sent to came accross the border and I meet him and picked everything up. so by the time I ordered and actually picked everthing up it was 1 week.

5.3 4x4 Z71 LOADED, custom exhaust, K&N FIJK, PowerAid (took some modification and alot of swearing to get this and the K&N to fit together), built in air pump, extention light under the hood, torsion bars adjusted so truck sit lower in the front, multi eccessory switches added to intirior of truck for dif. functions, wind deflectors all around including sunroof, electronic starter, Police siren
;), Speaker grills painted silver (like to North Face).

Yes there is a noticeable difference.

The clearence is fine, the oil filler tube bracket had to be modified slightly in order to hook it back up (not big deal), the other thing that had me a little confused was the fact the passenger header came with an extention tube and flange attateched to it, so I called TOG and they informed me it was for a EGR hook up and that some AV came with them and some didn't...(mine did NOT) SO THEY SENT ME A CAP PLATE TO BLOCK IT OFF., there was also a little dicking around to connect to the cats 9 again no big deal.
REMEMBER MY GUYS DID IT IN 2:20 START TO FINISH including making the block off cap for the EGR (I couldn't wait for them to send it to me) and dicking around getting everything right.

Hope this info helps you out Lightning.

I love the look and finish of the TOGs....not to mention they really do the job under the hood where it counts...unfortunately...I don't have that kind of cash so I think I'm going to opt for the JBA shorty headers.....correct me if I'm wrong but a shorty header won't hurt performance as opposed to a long tube style header on a street application?.......any takers :B:

NJAV, here's my thought on that (2? canadian worth) ;D

If I were you, I'd hold off on the header until you do have the money!!!!!!!
Then go for it.

If your going with shorties, then I would stick with the stock unit.
not worth it in my eyes... again only my (2? canadian worth, which isn't much... hell I may owe you money) :D :D :D

Thanks for your feedback Gene....I'll take it into consideration...after all everyone speaks so highly of The TOG's it must be for a very good reason....sometimes I just get like a kid at christmas.....I want it all right now.... :B:

? i am interested in getting headers also. ?have not made up my mine as to what set. ?maybe Arizona Speed & Marine? ?how would this affect my warranty? ?BTW, i took my truck in for the cold start tapping, and received the 6yr/100,000 mile extended warranty on the whole engine; ?minus the accessories. ?i was kinda of worried about voiding that extended coverage. ?any thought's? ???

went to the dealer today. the parts manager told me, "unless the headers caused the engine failure they cannot deny my warranty work." with that said i think i will get the Arizona Speed & Marine headers.

You are right on the money....some dealerships aren't mod friendly...so they might give you a harder time...but regardless....they have to honor the warranty....

After much thought I decided to go with the TOG's...it's a little bit more than the Gibsons/JBA headers etc..but it seems like everyone who has experience with them speaks very highly of them.....nothing is to good for my Avi.... :) :B:

i may have to go with TOG headers. i went to the Arizona Speed & Marine sight and did not like what i saw. first of all they did not exactly list an application for the '02 AV. the closest was a '00 5.3L Sub, P/U, or 'Hoe. then it said that some welding was required. i want to do this myself. as i have done the rest.
what is the going price for these headers? hopefully not as much as the Arizona Speed & Marine. i found them for $750. a little steep! :8:

TONGTP, cost me nothing did it my self at a buddies shop...
Well he did it while a played around doing other stuff >:D >:D

It's not big deal, the catch is having a welder on hand...

it took my guy's 2:20 min. from start to finish.

G.

thes headers seem to run about the same as the Arizona Speed & Marine. and you need to weld these as well. i may need to wait on this mod. :8:

True the price is a little steep...but the quality is second to none....besides it's got gandolphxx's seal of approval...good enough for me... :B:

 Well I have had the TOG Headers installed and I am having several issues with the truck since getting it back. First the truck shakes (not very bad but like it is misfiring, It backfired twice yesturday), I can hear the brakes scraping on the front tires when the breaks are not being applied. And the sterring is really loose now. The "Service Engine Soon" does come one but it is at random from what I can tell. When I lean into it, the light will come on and if I let off and keep the engine running less than 2K RPM the light will go away. Thanks for help.

Hi Dark,

Make sure all four O2 sensor got connected after the header install. There was a member that installed headers and had similar issues with SES lights and rough running. It turned out to be an O2 sensor not connected. I don't think the steering and brakes had anything to do with the header install unless the mechanic jacked up the truck by the steering linkage.

I'm selling a set of slightly used TOG headers for 5 beans. I have to replace my 'Y' pipe and catalytic converters so I'm going with a complete Dynatech system.

This is very tempting, but the $$$ would come right out of my meager blower fund.

Got my TOGS installed today (y)
Might be the first set in Calgary. Not much of any difference in sound which is fine by me. Already did the FIPK II and exhaust upgrade so Bertha is loud enough. Have only driven back home so not much experience but there seems to be more punch at the bottom end.

Now, to Suprecharge or not to Supercharge, that is the question.

Hey Steel,

Wouldn't you want these before or at the same time as the blower? You can't breathe in more than you can breathe out...

I only noticed a slight increase in sound (more of a change than an increase), but noticable improvement in power.
