The Other Guys Headers

After reading many good things about The Other Guys Headers, I decided to purchase. All I can say is Awesome! Definately well designed, the best I've seen. Muffler shop was impressed also. They installed them, which required some cutting and welding at the cats. A simple straight forward installation. Very noticeable increase in HP\TQ, and they look very nice. ;D Here's a link to there site www.theotherguysproducts.com

I have had the Other Guys headers on since the beginning of the year and can report similar results - I recommend them on three boards without hesitation - and they now come with a coating option that makes them perfect IMHO. ;D

I saw your review on the Other Guys website G-Man.....NICE....

Funny story about that, they sent m an email about using there pix on my site and my first thought was "oops, I am in trouble", but they just wanted to use the quote.

They also added the AV to their catalog list - cool.

Gand, What are the coating options? I am mentally preping for next year. Am out of mod money for this year (once grille, bow tie, cowling, spoiler and maybe visor showup ;D >:D)
However next year I plan to MR. Whipple the unit and it sounds like headers are a good thing at that point.

Good plan, Volant+Whipple+TOG = great performance!! IMHO ;D

The "Titanium-thermal-barrier-ceramic" is applied to the headers by The Other Guys as an option, should provide significant cooling under the hood. Check their site for more info http://www.theotherguysproducts.com/products.html

The video on the opening page of their website looks familiar :) I run these headers on the 8.1 Suburban and am very happy with the fitment and quality. These headers have been very popular for the truck applications.

Now that you have shamlessly and deservedly plugged your self ?;D , which is OK in my book, how about posting the coating option price and identify the AV ones - thanks. ;D

I searched the forums, but could not find the info I needed. Does anyone know what the header bolts should be torqued to? Does anyone know the proper sequence?

I am going to try to install my TOG's this week. Will I cause any problems by running the truck open-headered to the muffler shop (other than getting a ticket)? I don't want to burn a valve or mess up the computer.

I'm guessing you'll throw some sort of code driving like that...

I'm not sure how many 02 sensors you have after the manifolds, but they won't be getting the supply of exhaust they need and will most likely complain about it.

I can't really say if it's safe to run like that or not.

I don't think you want to run without headers - dire consequences follow that plan of action, the least of which is a ticket.

1. Call The Other Guys technical support - TOG Contact info

2. Here is some good advice on the tightening procedure - of course you need to double check the instructions from the mfgr you select. Header install torque question ;D

gandolphxx, I was planning to run to the muffler shop with the headers intalled with the adapter pieces that contain the O2 sensors installed to the collectors. Realizing that the sensors are upstream (but just barely) of the point where they headers would be open, would anyone think this is a problem? for the computer? How has everyone else put on TOG's themselves and had the muffler shop weld up the exhaust pipe?

G-xx reporting again, I admire your doing the headers at home, I took two years of Latin instead of shop and cannot weld [can solder & braze] - try a PM to Butch, he did his own - cant remember if he was at a shop or not.

It would not be a killing crime if it was K&N Gen 11, plus Whipple, plus TOG's would it? I don't want to throw away the money from the kit, plus it's working good

Not a crime, I am currently running a K&N with a homemade heat shield - sort of crummy setup - Tom Byrne has figured out the secret to the Volant, and thats my next step. Keep in mind that you lose the underhood blanket with the Whipple install, hence the heat sealing problem with the K&N.

WoW!!!  Those TOG's are really expensive....I went to go check them out earlier...... :B:

Hey fellow SoCal AV owner! Where in SoCal did you get them installed? My local shop that does all my exhaust work won't do them for me :8: ! They want me to buy stuff they can resale to make extra $$$. I contact TOG (Riverside) and they recommended a place in Costa Mesa which is about 2 hours for me and was hoping to find something a bit closer to me.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't TOG say you'll see gains around 43 hp with their headers, or I'm I just dreaming about whipple again....

You are not dreaming - TOG specs - 43 big ones is the number for the 8.1L ;D

Do you know what the number is for the 5.3? And can you throw a ballpark price at me for coated headers. Just the US price, I guess at everything it will take to get them up here.

I would guess that it is in the 30+ range, best bet is to contact them directly. As to the price, contact TByrne Motorsports for the price of the coated version. I wouldn't want to guess.

I'll take an educated guess....because I swear I seen somewhere, but If I'm not mistaken your looking in the $700+ for the coated TOG headers..... :B:
