Thinking About Wheel / Tire Package

I am thinking about purchasing a second set of rims and tires for the AV. I am looking at Chrome American Racing Rims and BF Goodrich tires (either Mud Terrain or AT KO's). Does anyone have suggestions? Should I stick with the recommended sizes or go bigger? I really don't want to mess with the speedometer. These will be my spring/summer slicks. I will put the stock back on for our salty winters. I am willing to spend up to $2,500.00 for a set of four. Let me know what you think!

Thanks!

Well if you do not want to mess with speedo then must stay with same tire OD. Bummer huh.

You could get one of those computer thingys that allow you to reporgram for larger tires though I think.

If your going to swtch back and forth I would suggest something like the Jet Performance SCU2000 - it will handle it.

, and slightlyIf you do alot of hiway driving.., I would stick with the B.F.G. All Terrains, there very quiet on the road.., and are a much better snow tire, than the Mud Terrains... You will get a slightly harsher ride, than the stock tires., due to the 3 ply side wall of the B.F.G. s.., but not much at all.. Im running B.F.G 295 A/Ts on 8 inch Weld Wheels.., Im very happy with them.., and the truck actually handles much better than with the stock tires, especially on Hard cornering, due to the greater tire width, slightly wider wheel track... I had to lift the front 2 inches, and do some wheel well trimming to fit the 295s., but You could fit 285s, with just a little bit of trimming, and maybe a slight cranking of the Torsion Bars to bring the frount up a Half an inch or so..., there are a few ways to reprogram the Puter for larger tires.., Hypertec, and Jet are two of them.. Hope this helps., good luck with your tire choice... Butch.

Refer to page 3 in this section "Alternative wheel and tire combos" . My advise is I won't go bigger than 1 inch over or .5 inch under stock diameter which is 31.8 inches. Check the load ratings etc........................in other words...do your on line homework at the tire sites. ;D

??? ??? OH MY GOD!!!! I've just spent the last couple of hours looking at wheels and tires and combos and what works what won't...ahhhhhhhh!!

This after working a 12 hour shift last night....and I'm still not off this thing yet.....I would like to wake up tomorrow and look outside and my Av already be outfitted.....ahhhhh ohhhhh.... :(

Tire & wheel selection depends upon what you are planning to use the vehicle for- Will you be pulling a heavy trailer, offroading, highway and commute use or long distance travel?
For general street use I really like the BBS light truck chrome wheels in 20" diameter with proper sized tires. BBS is a top quality wheel and 20" tires make the AV handle better on the road. You can see how these look on the AV (and other wheels) at www.thetirerack.com

For Towing purposes you need to stay with stock (17")diameter wheels and possibly upgrade the load rating-depending upon the trailer weight.

Offroading requires a more aggresive tread pattern that will also compromise highway road noise and handling.
