My 2002 2500 has a security system that disables the ignition unless I use the remote key fob to unlock the doors.

My problem is I have to press the unlock button, constantly ,for sometimes 10 min to get the doors to unlock.

Please, don't ask if I changed the battery in the remote. I'm dumb but not that dumb 🙂

My question is how do I turn this dumb thing off.

If I leave the driver's door open it doesn't engage. Where is the door switch?
Could I just disable that?

sounds like aftermarket alarm as 2002 did not have anything fancy like that.

My suggestion is to rip it out as seems everyone who installs alarm or remote start or something to a 2002 ends up with weird issues like you have.

OR take to alarm shop type place usually a mobile stereo place.

Thanks for the fast help!
So, aftermarket...

That makes sense as I could not find anything to help by searching 2002 Avalanche security system.

Does anyone know how the truck knows that the door is closed? All I need to do is disable that.

My first car was a 65 Mustang, it had a plunger switch in the door to shut off the dome light. Alass, we have grown beyond that.

i havent looked for a door switch in my 03 Avalanche, but my 07 Colorado still had the simple plungers in the door jam.

Wish I still had that 65 mustang...
I think it is (9) "Mini Wedge (Door Jamb Switch)" in the latching mechanism. If you unplug that you will probably end up with all kinds of warnings like the driver door is open, etc.
