Stolen! Was running sweet and looking maybe a little too nice and now someone else is driving it. Right out of my parking space at work. Barely had 2500 miles on it.

I'm sort of in shock, really. Just wondering. Maybe its almost time for a brand new one.

My AV replaced a truck that was stolen.... I had to wait 25 days from the reported date for my settlement, then try to get them to increase the amount because it was alittle low...
then do all the needed paper work to get the settlement,

all in all I was in rental trucks for a couple months......

The first week or so, I was really hoping it would get recovered, but as time went on I started hoping that it would not be.... the longer the vehilce is gone... the worse shape it will be recovered in.

I am truely sorry too hear this happened to you, and I 100% understand what you are feeling, and what is going through your head right now.

Since I'm having an additional alarm installed on
Tueday...I am especially interested in the circumstances surrounding your loss...I feel for you!!!
1) Were your doors locked?
2) Did you have the factory alarm set?
3) Any broken glass in your parking spot?
4) Do you have On-Star and did you call them?

Did not have OnStar, but the replacement one will.

I have a car too so I'm not really too freaked about the time it takes to sort things out. I have no doubt my carrier is going to do the right thing with whatever happens. I KNOW that!

It's just a truck and in the scheme of things it really isn't anything but a few bucks and alot of inconvenience. That goodness it was insured. Don't get me wrong. I really liked it. No matter how you look at it the truck is a hunk of replaceable metal.

One thing for sure...I have to change the code on my garage door opener tomorrow.

Doors were locked, factory alarm was on, there was no broken glass, it definitely could NOT have been towed because it was in a low parking garage.

really sorry to hear about your loss :6: Hope you get a fair settlement and get another AV soon

Wow... sorry to hear that your truck is gone 2500 miles
THat's a shame....

Hope all goes well without any problems in the settlement process!

sorry for your loss......i was just reading a different thread and someone had theirs stolen and found out that a new key had been made from getting the vin#. dont know how you find this out, call chevy maybe?
edit- its member Avalanche44 whose was stolen, shoot him a pm and maybe he can tell you how he found out the key thing

That sucks! :6:

I hope it all works out for you...

No offense to you but I'm glad I
don't live in Miami. I had a close
friend who lives there and he
was always trying to downplay
the amount of crime in the city...
Then his girlfriend's brother was
carjacked in a nice part of town in
broad daylight on a sunday! :8:

Glad you weren't hurt. If you do get
Onstar see if you can get a discount on
your insurance some companies offer it...

Good luck!

Unbeleivable! After you get your settlement, ( I wouldn't want it back either) Ask a member here for a GM in the driveway certificate and go get yourself a shiney new AV with more than you had before for LESS!! I did (y) :B:

I think the police found out that someone had a key made for my AV. When one is stolen they check things like that out here. I know I am so lucky to have Onstar. They tracked my AV down really quick. They disabled the fuel pump also so it wouldn't run either. I know in August I will renew with them. The way things are now, I really don't even have an insurance claim. AAA paid for the tow, and putting my tires back on. I really feel lucky. I sure hope yours turns out as good as mine did. But if it doesn't, make sure you get Onstar. They worked really quick and with the police department. It was not too big of a deal for us. The only thing was the impound. I didn't know what I was going to see when I went to get it. Oh I did pay for the impound. Good Luck.

Man, sorry to hear about your loss. I keep my VIN on the dash covered, so if a bad guy is looking to make a key, he is going to have to do some work to get a VIN.

I would also suggest you do some research before getting on-star on your next truck. It's really only made to catch the most stupid theives. All they need to do is smash the antenna, cut the antenna wire, pull the on star fuse OR disconnect the battery.

There are some better systems out there, and those at least have a backup battery and can't be disabled by just pulling a fuse or battery.

I have not perfected my own version yet, but I am working on one just for something to do (I get bored easily). Pre-paid cell phone and GPS/web based.

I am really happy I had stupid theives. I will be getting another alarm on both of ours. I had a viper and I had alot of trouble with it. The viper might not have been install right or something.

I just came from Chevy. This is a confirmed scam. Thief copies down the VIN from the windshield and then somehow gets a key made that matches the chip. They let themselves into your truck without setting off the alarm and drive it away.

On the next one, I'll be sliding a piece of cardboard or paper down under my windshield to cover the VIN

I think I've just discovered my next mod! Sorry to hear about your Avy getting stolen. Anyone know off hand of any other locations on the Av where the VIN is easily gotten from, like underneath...that should be covered up or removed???

next most easiest place to find vin, would be rear of driver's door, but they have to be able to open door to get it. I've been covering mine up almost since the day I got it, makes it a hassle for the dealer when in for service, and goverment echeck, but much better for my peace of mind

We covered ours as well the 1st day...took a small piece of cardboard, cut it to the length and width of the VIN "window" with a tab on the center top to remove
when necessary, took a Marks-a-lot pen and colored black to match the surrounding area and then clear shipping tape over all of it as a stiffener...looks good...can't see VIN = peace of mind... (y)
