Hi All:

I just discovered a great use for the "Easy Exit" button on the 2003 AVs with memory.

I always thought the "Easy Exit" feature was kinda a waste on me since I'm a big guy and pretty much have the seat all the way back for my 'normal' driving position- so I never used it.

What is "Easy Exit"? It is a seat position setting that can be recalled when you turn off the ignition (settable through the DIC) or press a button on the door. I think the idea is that when you want to exit the vehicle, the seat would automatically move back (or whatever position) you like to make getting in/out easier.

SO WHATS THE TIP?
So if you don't use that feature like me, you can program the "Easy Exit" seat position to aid folding down the midgate. One press of the button will automatically move the driver's seat out-of-the-way to a preset (memorized) location so the back seat folds down unfettered.

This is great for me since I always have to move the driver's seat manually everytime I want to fold down the midgate since I drive with the seat all the way back. (The things us 6'3" guys have to put up with.)

Now all I have to do is press a button on the driver's door.

The button can actually be used as a "3rd seat memory location" for a 3rd driver in a pinch. (Note that only works if you don't use the Easy Exit feature. Also the radio, temp and mirror positions are not memorized.

Hopefully someone else will find this useful.

As one of those "big guys" you casually refer to, I'm 195cm... I'll have to make a note about this hint as I may need it when (and if ever) I pick up my av.

Nice one there. I didn't know that space was programmable. I was using the 2 memory for that. No more. The 2nd will go back to is someone tall is sitting behind me. I guess I can give them a couple more inches (6'5" here....2 meters for you english system chanlanged).

No only if the passenger seat had a memory position for that as well...

Yeah, roro, tell me about it. Ssshhhh... don't tell my passengers, but I secretly position their seat so that it clears the rear seat fold-down. Because the AV is so big, they don't notice. But, lets keep that our little secret. ;)

With the simple mod to the rear headrests you don't need to put the front seat up to lower the back seat. You simply pop out the headrest and drop the seat regardless of it's position.

I didnt realize that with the headrests out, the seat would drop regardless of the front seat position.

I have done the headrest mod and I have been forgetting to use it! So thanks for reminding me.

Ed: Is the easy exit setting different than the settings that I have heard are available for Driver One, Driver Two?

Hey Larry,

I tried to caution you at the San Pedro GTG not to put the Headrest LCD panels in the back seat Headrests. You've forgotten about them already. And now you want to take them out!

Duh! ;D

LOL!

It may surprise you to know that the LCD's still work, even after I remove the rear headrests.

that way you can lay them on your lap, and have a, get this, LAPTOP!

Oh har. Oh har, Oh har!

Hey - I have skiis that are 195 cm. According to my calculations, that puts you at almost 77 inches, which is 6' 5". Wow - everything really is bigger down under.....

LOL... yep, I think it comes out to 6' 41/2" but not everything is bigger down here... the missus is only 5' 4".

We have two Aussies working in our office. They are both over 6' tall. The girls go gaga over these guys. And one guy has a sister who lives in New York City and is a fashion model for a lingerie company. Yee haaa!

So I guess not only is everything bigger down under, but better looking too? ;D

Ed,

Good call.
I am constantly facing the problem with moving the seats to move the midgate. What I have done instead of moving the seat forward, is just lean the seat back forward. I hate the sound of the motor as use try and move it back when the midgate is down, so I just use the manual lever for the seat back and then lean into it once I climb back in. I believe it saves waer and tear on the motor.

Well since I did not get a reply regarding the button that was used to reprogram the easy exit seat... I actually got off my butt and looked at the switches on the door. I finally realized the button that is above the 2 driver 1 and 2 buttons... with the little arrow exiting the truck... is the easy exit button! The funny thing is tat 2 months ago (right after getting the truck) I must have pressed that button while trying to program the seats... since it had the effect of turning off easy exit... I called the dealer and asked if they could tell me how to program it ... they had no clue. They told me to come in and they would replace the control bd. for the seat. I never had time to drop it off... now I do not have too.

Thanks for forcing me to learn how to use my truck.

I just used the easy exit today to load my California King box springs into the Av. Had it programmed like that for a long time, but always forgot to use it.

BTW, I'm 6'7". Do I win? ;D
