I watched an episode of Donut Media  and they where talking about how old your tires, where to check are and how often you should change them.

So not ever thinking about this...

I headed out the the garage yesterday and checked my tires birthday. Mine were manufactured in Jan of 2012.  That just over 8 years old.  According to the episode, they recommend tires should not be older than 6 years old.  I have about half the tread life let but I guess I should look into getting a new set.

How many of you think this is important and you should actually look at your tires age as a regular part of your maintenance plan?

How to find the DOT number on your tires:

Well I am sure mine are older then 6 years... but I do not drive the truck much anymore.
no more than 1200 miles per year....

Would hate to replacetires that long before tire wear....

So I am gonna gamble and keep on driving until tread wears or I see dry rot.....

Note: I park truck 24/7 inside a garage that is pretty dark inside so no sunlight to kill tires...

I think I will bite the bullet this time and pick up a new set to be on the safe side. I don't know the history of the AV i just bought.  I mean it only has 39K miles so I'm sure they are OEM still.

side note: The tires on my 88 Fiero dry-rotted and they only had about 200 miles a year on them lol

That's my loggie keep that economy humming... yeah buy some new tires...
think of who it helps:
Tire manufacturer and all the raw material peeps
tire mounting machine manufacter etc
Shipping companies
Balnce weight manufacturer
Valve stem company
Local tire guy and who all he spends his income on...

If ya think about it I am sure it helps more...

But probably not a bad idea unless she rides nice and smooth... and tires look good...

SIDEBAR:
88 Fiero.... Oh dayum we had the first model year I think 86??
Little red thing with the 4 cylinder that could catch fire...

great idea of a car - crappy production

Always trying to do what it takes to keep the world turning

My tires were just a tad over 6 years old with at least half the tread left. I was driving at highway speed and heard what sounded like the tread come loose on the tire and slapping the wheel well. Kept driving long enough to get off the highway and found a big chunk of the tread had come off. Went to discount to buy 1 new tire and they recommended I replace all because of the age of the tires(even though they had lots of tread left). Since I was planning a road trip, I replaced all 4.
