Tire pressure Question?

I just purshased an 07 A/V with the factory 20"s.  The drivers door recommends 32 psi.  I noticed that the tire pressure monitors read 36psi cold and 40psi hot.  Is this set at the factory that way?  What psi are you running?  I was thinking about letting some of the air out but was thinking that running 32psi would be too low for the 20"s.  :help:

The factory usually recommends the lowest pressure for a softer ride. I think the 36 to 40 range is OK. Does the tires have a max pressure on it?

i personally think that is a bit high.  i would go with what is on the door-jamb sticker.  with that sidewall being shorter & stiffer the added pressure will make for a slightly harsher ride.  not to mention add to the wear factor on the top center portion of the tire.

as far as what the pressure on the sidewall of the tire says i would not go by that either.  you have to remember that that particular tire will be mount on many different wheels on many different vehicles.  that pressure on the side of the tire is there for the buyer to be aware that they are not to exceed that PSI per the info provided in the owner's manuals & door-jambs of the their vehicles.

Hum the tire manufacturer does not know what's the pressure for the tire they built Huuummm ???

I guess everyone has a opinion

? ?it's not an opinion it's a fact.? why would you run the same tire pressure for a tire that can be mounted on anything from a small front wheel drive car ( these kids are putting bigger tires on cars around here everyday.) to a large truck (AV in this case) to a Hummer.

? ?if you want to talk about opinions then let me know when EVERY tire you find that can be mounted on an AV lists the same tire pressure.? get back to me when you come up with the answer.

? ?i think if you looked at that pressure on the side of the tires it states "MAX PRESSURE" for that tire application.? not "MAX PRESSURE FOR AVALANCHES".? think about it.

Let's take this discussion to Dave bar and grill. I don't want this debate this in a newbie post

Thanks for the replies.  And no I don't want to start a debate on this just curious.  I personally thought the 36 cold psi was alittle high.  The max pressure on the side of the tire is 44psi.  I'll probably run the pressure around 33-34psi.  and adjust from there.  Thanks for the replies again...

Sorry I knew it was going to start. in my opinion your are right

that sounds fine.  i run mine at 32psi like GM recommends on/ in their literature.  i guess they don't know what pressure should be used either.

don't be sorry.  we are not always going to agree with everyone.  i don't agree with everything.  i just take note until i find reason to change my thoughts in the future.  i have learned a lot from dealing with all the members here.  sometimes we come to learn something, think it is the only way to do something, then get blind-sided when we see there is a different way of doing something.  not knowing what to believe we just go with our gut, and stick with what we have been doing for the longest.  not to say your way is wrong, but there is often a better, or in this case possibly a safer way, to do things.

let's leave it at that, and continue to do what we have been doing, and let the people who are inquiring take the info provided, and make a decision.

I run 35 PSI...A good mix between ride and handling

actually... this thread had me thinking all day.  i called a very good gear-head friend of mine in Florida.  he told me exactly what you just stated Cadboy.  i guess this would be the fine line separating this whole thread.  i am going to try it.  going to power the compressor up right now.
