Tire Shaving Or Truing

Discovered that my Rough Country shocks have gone bad so I replaced them but noticed that I'm having some cupping going on. So I rotated the front tires to the back and the back to the front. (Didn't cross rotate. X) The tires are still have plenty of tread left on them so I don't want to have to buy 2 new tires. So after some researching I discovered something called Tire Shaving. My question is has anyone done this and how did it turn out. Second is if anyone knows of a place that does it. I'm located in Southern California.

Thanks

When was the last time you had a front alignment done? Or even better a 4 wheel alignment?

The latest was 6 months ago. But I think they only did the front. Do you think an alignment shop will do it with tire cupping?

Provided you don’t have any worn out front end parts, (ball joints, control arms etc) I cant see a reason they wouldn’t.

I know on mine, I get some minor cupping due to having the 22” OEM upgraded wheel package. (Came with 20”, but first owner did the upgraded wheel/tire package from the dealership when purchased)

I take mine in once a year for a 4 wheel alignment to keep everything lined up properly.

Tire cupping is usually caused by weak shocks, you replaced them so were the tires cupping before or after the shock replacement? If you're sure it was after you got brand new weak shocks, if before then your tires will remain cupped until they wear a little more. Tire truing is just a sham; IMHO. Its a way to cheat you out of wear on your tires so the guy that sold you the tires can sell you some more. Think about turning brand new brake drums or rotors to "true them up" that's balonie, the counter guy wants to up his numbers for the day, cherat you and laugh later with his buddies. Those parts are MADE on a lathe, if they NEED truing don't buy them.

Tires will remain cupped after new shocks are installed, you didn't mention when you found the cupping.... The tires will (of course) remain cupped until you drive for a while. if the cupping is severe you should replace the tire but ask a full time tire person you trust. So far as I know you always rotate radials front to back, back to front; never make the tire rotate in other than the same direction as when first installed.

Thank You for your response. The cupping started before the new shocks. I have replaced the shocks and rotated the tires front to back - back to front. I'm hoping the cupping on the tires will wear themselves out. I guess time will tell.
I'm also wondering if I need hub centric rings since the bore does not hug the hub.
