I need some advise. I need to get some bass but it cannot interfere with the operation of my mid-gate (ie no 12in sub woofers in the back). Do you have any suggestion that will not cause me to mortgage my house for the cost of the custom fabrication work?

did you take a look at the subsolutions box ? its located on the partners page. Our moderator Crod has one in his Av and 12 of us are going to be installing the box within the week.

take a look at it if you have any questions give me a email

it sits behind the back seat but it can be removed in about a minute to put the midgate down.

The only two options out there right now that will not interfere too much with the midgate are the Subsolutions box, and the JL Audio Stealthbox. With the JL Audio you will loose storage in your center console.

Do a search for subs. This topic has been discussed extensively. Try this link for some info: Perfect Subwoofer Location

i do not like the idea of the woofer in the kick panel because, well, someone might kick it. i had a sealed enclosure made that would fit under the rear seat on the driver side with a little modification. the mod: undo the three seat bolsters on the driver side rear seat and add two large washers under the seat bolsters (3). bolt them back down. now your seat will latch over your box. the seat will not fold perfectly flat, but the midgate opening/closing is not interfered with. i have excess wire so i can move the box if need be.
i believe that the box is a total of .75 cu. in.. you could actually just have them make the box a little shorter in height and longer in length to still make the box .75 cu. in..
i had them build me a box to the exact spec's of a friend's Duramax box only to find out later the Duramax has soft bottom seats that do not intefere with seat latching as much.
the speaker is a Xtant A series sub. it is 2 ohm stable. it souded okay at first. i say okay because it did not thump when i turned up the volume loud. it would distort. the other day i read on the net that when you under power a speaker it would do that. so i bought a Bazooka amp with 600 watts mono. now that sub is jammin'. i did not buy the amp from the guys who built the box because i thought they were trying to rip me off with their $300 amp ( Vizonik i think it was). so i bought another amp instead. a good one, JBL, but just not quite enough to do what i wanted to do.
moral to the story? shop around at different shops. get prices/ideas. make a decision and roll with it. when one shop tells you one thing confirm it with another, or someone you know that is wise in the art of car stereos. i know a guy who installs for circuit city that gave me some very good advice about about stuffing the enclosure with polyfil, stuff in pillows, to make the speaker think it is in a larger enclosure than it really si for deeper, tighter bass. :B:
