Torque App for Android

Just a partial update: I did get an adapter from Amazon and picked up the app.  For the adapter, after I searched for the adapter, I picked a dept, sorted by user reviews, then picked one up for about 14 bucks with shipping.  I've used it here and there, but until I get a better windshield mount (quarterly bonus at end of month!), I don't think I'll be using it much.  Also, the OBD2 port on the Avalanche is right beside the parking brake.  I kicked it off the plug the first day I had it, lol.  I'll have to move that.

Also, I tried this out on my Grand Prix, which has MPG readout.  Torque wasn't an exact match, so I'm not sure how much I trust it to give me good numbers on the Avy...

Yeah
I reversed mine when I started using the OBD II reader with my CarPC.

Here's a pic to give you an idea.
This is taken from outside the truck looking in under the dash.

A little late to the party - to guage the accuracy of the torque app, manually check your mileage for a couple tanks of gas by using the actual odometer readings and the amount of gas to fill the tank.  I've found that the mpg on the vehicle displays is not very accurate.  Yes, I track every fill up and yes, I have OCD when it comes to this.

I rarely do a proper check on my mileage.  I'm always to d@mn broke, lol.
I have before, but I don't run the app enough to be sure.  I was having a problem with the mileage resetting on the app every time I started the truck, but that seems to have cleared up with the last update.  It was every time I had it reset the gauge.  It would then reset it every time I started the app, for about a week, then it would stop.  It's been a while since I used it though.  I know the number is bad, seeing it is just depressing, lol.  I used it the other day to track my trans temp when towing, but didn't bother looking at the mpg.

Yeah i just fitted a ELM327 adapter and downloaded the get torque plus app today still early days yet seeing what it can do and finding out how to use it

The best way to check your mileage is manually, not by that adapter or the DIC.

Agreed.  But Torque or a DIC readout (which mine doesn't have) is a good reference to how "responsibly" I'm driving, in real time.  My Daily Driver is an '04 Grand Prix, which has the DIC readout, and I watch that more than the speedometer, lol.  If I drop down to 18, I know I need to be more cautious.  If it hits 22, it means I'm doing what I should be.  I agree that it's not 100% accurate (maybe 90-95%), but it's a constant reminder of how you're driving.  It's not really what I would call "hyper-miling", but more responsible driving.  This not only saves gas, but saves wear on brakes and other parts of the car.
My wife never watched that when it was her car (my hand-me-down now), it went through brakes, tires and wheel bearings.  Now that I have it, all I ever do is change the oil, lol.

I have one of those "real time" ones that came on my Corolla and it def. helps me to improve my driving and increase my mileage.

is this something you can use to try to, like, maybe remap your ECU?, or eliminate rear O2 sensors?

I'm pretty sure this is beyond the scope of the app.  There are some guys on here that will probably have a better answer for you, lol.  But I'm almost positive Torque can't do that, and it requires more complex equipment.  About the most you can do is clear the fault logs to reset the Check Engine Light.

New 4 month (2002 ) Avalanche owner great site. So I just ordered the BAFX should be here soon, setting up (paid) Torque vehicle profile. I'm stuck on fuel type. No regular unleaded...lol. Curious as to what other used in the pull down menu. And any other options to add or select. I had the 'Reduced Engine Power' come on and need to get exact codes. On a separate note, when back out this morning and the 'Reduced Engine Power' light is off, but the service engine soon is still on. So reluctant in driving it. Cheers everyone...
