New bling is on! Not too bad of a job and i didn't make too much of a mess. I used a harbor freight clamp, one of those spring types you squeeze with your hand, to hold the old pan up so I didn't dump fluid everywhere. I wonder what genius thought it was a good idea to omit the drain plug? Anyway.
No big clearance issues on my truck. I had to bend the corner of the exhaust heat shield and bend the shifter bracket a couple mm. I did have to use the Allen socket you see in the pic to have clearance. You could make it work with a normal allen socket though. Other than that, great fit and looks much better. Fluid was super clean with a whopping ~300 miles on it. I'll probably work on a heat shield for the exhaust this weekend although it's probably not necessary. Torqued the pan bolts to 14ft-lbs like the instructions said.
My trans temp this week has been running about 155° F just normal driving around town at stop lights and some 50mph driving in 92-94° outside temps. Gauge in the dash is fairly accurate for a dummy gauge. So we'll see where they go next weekend when i pull the camper again to Lake Keowee.
Well this is how I thought my truck should pull, no issue and transmission and never went over ~170°, even in the hills. Pulled in 3rd with TH on. All good except the gas mileage
Keowee Toxaway State Park is about an hour from our house, kids and wife in the truck, AC on and no worries. Outside was 88° and sunny. Beautiful lake and great camping.
Next up, suspension and brake upgrade, stay tuned
Miles Creek County Park in SC
Playground, 'beach', clear lake, campground, can't beat it!
I ended up wrapping the exhaust with some header wrap where it goes around the trans pan. Not sure how well it really helps, but shouldn't hurt?
Truck did fine once again. It was more mountain terrain this time, 2nd and 3rd gear mostly, trans temp stayed around 180 the whole way. Cruises at 60 - 62mph at ~3k rmp in 3rd with the 4.88s. A solid 7.5mpg pulling the camper.
Camping at Jellystone Yogi Bear in Bostic, NC the last couple days. Very cool if you have kids. So much to do!
