I'm thinking you have too much money? ???

Why not spend it on mods? Or send it to me! >:D

But seriously, while it's always fun to dream, it will be expen$ive. You're gonna take a beating on the trade-in for the old truck. :C:

Everyone,

I am thinking about trading in my Z66 for a Z71.

Any thoughts?

Jim

If I recall from other post, he is moving to CO later this year or early next year.

I would say if he wants to play in the Mtns, he needs to trade, but don't trade it in CO. A Z66 is rare in CO. I have not seen any on delaers lots. All they order here are the Z71's and 2500 4x4's.

Yeah, a "beating" is an understatement!

I really love 4 wheeling and like to push the limits of any vehicle that I own. I've had my Av in 4 lo a number of times (once for most of the day) at this point. However even with that crazy streak in me, my Av probably spends 98% of its time on pavement or dirt roads where the 4 wheel drive does nothing except give you a bit worse mileage and reduce your trailering capacity.

If you're interested in some good 'wheeling, the Av is a bit long anyway. So, were I in your position, I'd keep your Z66 and spend the cash you'd have been raped by the dealer on a trail rig like an old blazer or a CJ. (something I'm thinking of doing even though I have a Z71!)

Just my $.02 :)

I am moving to CO in January. I got a big discount from GM when I bought my truck so I only paid 29k for it. The sticker was over 34k. I just don't know if my Z66 will be alright in Colorado.

As long as you don't want to 4x4 it will be fine. ?If you plan to go to the mtns a lot during the winter to ski or play, it is very helpful to have a 4x4. ?When a snow storm hits up there you will watch all the 4x4's pass you as you are stuck on the shoulder.

Now when we get snow storms on the front range 4x4 is not as much of a requirement. ?You can get home in most storms with a 4x2, but there are some spring storms that just dump several inches and hour.

Over all you should be OK - I would come out here and try out your AV. ?If you need to trade. ?Just drive your AV to TX and do the trade in. :) ?There is more of a demand in TX than in CO. (that wasn't a slam on my TX)

Anyone can get a Z71.. remember the Z66 may ultimately be a colectors item ... I actually have more people inquire about the Z66 than anything else. I've always had 4x4 but love my 66

Hey Tiger,
There's a guy over here that lives in LA and might be interested in obtaining a Z66, but he's not convinced the AV is for him.
If you do decide to trade or sell, this route may benefit you both.
Hope something works out.

Earthquake,

Thanks for the news. I posted over there as well. It might be worthless though, I told my wife what Blueruck said about the Z66 in CO and she said we would just keep it. We will see. She changes her mind daily.

Imagine that.

When we went to Taos, NM for Christmas last year I was glad I had the 4x4. Of course we were in the mountains and it was really bad at a couple of spots. But I would say if you're just going to be tooling around town and not going through the mounts a few time a week, I would keep the 66.
If you think about it, unless you have to, you aren't going to go to the mountains when it gets really bad. Of course, if you're like me, when the weather gets bad, I hop in the truck.
If you are going to trade it in, I would try to sell it to an individual. You'll get more, especially since yours is only a year old (if that).

Especially since you have a plausible reason for selling. Many people would question why would someone want to sell such a new truck - must be something wrong with it. However, explaining that you love the truck, but need to upgrade for your new location may actually help the sale.

Unfortunately, even with that, you're not going to get back all of your money. :6:

I think you're gonna take a decent $ hit on the trade-in. Not mahy people are going to want to buy used when there are such great deals & financing on new ones. But if you can work something out with the dealer then it might not be that bad.
I wish I would have gotten the Z-66 instead of the Z-71. I paid a lot more $ for stuff I don't need or use...

I agree the general concensus, you are going to take a hit for trade in...hmm not worth it..if anything sell it yourself....if anything go out there and see how it goes with the Z66, if you don't like it than Z71 it.... :B:
