I am going to make myself a flag pole mount for my trailer hitch, like the ones that were at the Niagara GTG.
If all goes well I would be willing to make more than one, if anyone is interested.
If all doesn't go well then I will seek help from my articulate father-in-law, in this event it will be a flawless and affordable mod everyone can enjoy. (except the guy behind you).

pyd, I would be interested (y)

I'm curious, what size flag (dimensions) would be best suited to that sort of pole ........ I didn't measure any of those at Niagara, but they didn't appear to be the "official" size. I suppose I'll be checking out web sites for flags now

I think 3/5 is the standard, but it can be made to accomodate any size.

I just went to price the steel, and now there is another option.
I think galvinized would work best, but I see I can get stainless too, that would look sharp..
I will do mine in black, but there is no reason I couldn't get these done to match any trucks color..

The idea of a trailer hitch flag is interesting. I wanted something for Canada Day and I cannot do on my Excursion what I did on my Avalanche. :( Here is an idea of what I did on the Avalanche. :)

If you can come up with prices, I am interested. I would prefer black to match the Excursion. This is a long shot, but what do you think the chances are of getting something manufactured and shipped to Alberta in time for Canada Day? :)

Boar-Ral, for you, no problem.
MUSIKS, O.K.
Nats, I don't know what your talking about..Do I know you? >:D
Gino, as usual, nice try.. ;)
Just_Jeepin, your in Ohio? This thing will be 6' long, shipping may be a drag, but no problem..

Mine is being made as we speak (as I speak)
I am using 100 wall (1/10 inch) galvinized steel so it will never rust,
Cost so far pending the welding will probally be around 50-60 bucks unpainted.
Im excited, now I just need a flag..

Here's a place that sells them on-line - http://www.northeastflags.com/flagware.aspx

For a hitch flag with a 2" receiver and 3x5' flag it's over $130 or something like that. The flag pole itself has a lifetime warranty. The pole design is made so it won't catch or tangle, etc.

Hey Pyd, you building it like the pics or made any changes?

I built this one different, I needed the pics for measurments. Mine is using odd numbers just so I can have one NOW. The ones I will be producing will be different too.
I am contemplating one with a hinge for tailgate purposes, also I am going to incorporate a bumper to protect the tailgate in case of a rear end collision. These small changes may make the thing uneconomical, and I may just stick with a straight 90 degree pole so we can all have one. I have a thousand ideas..
The pics were a great help though, thanks again.

Interesting idea, a little smaller than what I am building. The price for a 3 by 5 flag with a two inch reciever is $143.00, after shipping and exchange our boys here would be paying well over $200.00, for 200 bones I could make one hell of a flag mount!
Having said that, I can get 2inch polished aluminum as well, a 7 foot mast made from that will last a lifetime and look pretty darn good too. Im sure that could be done for well under $200.00.
As far as a warranty goes, 100 wall galvinized is like a fence post, unless you hit it with something really big it will be around forever too.

I know what you mean about a thousand ideas. I have been running other ideas through my mind since you first mentioned this. I am curious how much it would cost to built a T-shaped bracket that went the width of the vehicle so you could have a flag on each rear corner of the vehicle. It might look ugly like this unless plate steel was used vertically behind the flag mount and then angled inward beneath, almost like a pseudo-bumper. Just something to cover up the actual tubing. I can also ask my brother-in-law about things like this to get his input. He is who welded my original flag mount for the roof of the Avalanche, using the factory bolts on the cladding above the rear window. His work completely blows me away. I gave really poor drawings and asked if he could weld it for me. Instead, he improved my design, put it together overnight, and even painted it for me. I can live with in-laws like this. :)

I'm not much of a handy man. My flag pole would probably be made of bamboo and would probably break just backing out my drive way.

The whole length isn't a biggie, there is a 3 flag pole out there too, you would just need to duplicate that but extend the outer two flag mounts. The only problem is the span, too far and it may flex a little, you could use heavier tube but that would be heavy and awkward.
But.. making each flag pole removable, leaving you with more options, 2 outside flags, or one singe flag, even three... O.K. make that 1001 ideas..
Good to see you around Boar-Ral (y) (y)

How much will the pole cost w/o shipping? Got a guy here that has offered me what I think is a good deal...
